My Crazy Family Vent

I went out to dinner with my sister tonight and she told me something that made me soo angry!!

One of my cousins got married last january. It was a shot gun wedding that her parents made her have to save face. My cousin wanted to have a simple backyard type reception at her parents house but they insisted she have it at Sunset Harbor since they were paying for it. Well they invited about 130 guests, 50% of them were her parents friends. My cousin was not allowed to have really any say in the planning since it was all really rushed and the budget was tight. Now flash forward to after the wedding. My aunt, whom works for the bank, goes and empties my cousins account of all the gifts she received for the wedding only telling her, 'i took the money, it was just enough to cover all the expenses from the wedding'!!

Now how screwed up is that!! They had no agreement that the gifts were going towards the cost, my cousin had thought the wedding was being paid for. I feel so bad for her. And of course all of my family members gave a little more than normal since she was starting out with this new marriage and baby and she was pretty broke. GRRRRRR

this is so bad....but its illegal for her mom to take out the money from her bank account...she should do something about it.... ohhh i feel so bad for her...

Yeah i know, its not good at all. My cousin actually lives in an apt in her parents house and they just take the rent money when the want too also, causing my cousin to bounce checks all the time. I told her to switch banks but she thinks it will cause too many issues. I feel so bad for her DH. He is putting up with so much. her parents still are treating them like children.

how old is your cousin??? if i would be her i would first complain to the manager of the bank and then find an apartment far away. If her mom is like that now, then i donts see a future for your cousin marriage life....she should run as far as possible from her parents...

mother or not sounds like there is something FISHY going on in that house......sounds like parents may have some financial woes and are takinga dvantage of the daughter.....they probably figured pay cheap for the wedding and make out on the deal.....I would definately speak up and get my but into a new apartment and bank asap.....what her mom did is absolutely illegal....if she were to say something to the manager of the bank she could face possible jail time.....regardless of the relationship unless RUN FAST

wow that is BALLS. I would write in every single thank you card, thank you for your generous gift. Thanks to you my mom was able to recover the cost of the wedding.

Wait, how could anybody withdraw money from someone else's account? Unless that person is on the account, they can't do that and can sue a bank for doing that!!! I'd flip and demand the money back....screw that!

OMG that is horrible, I asume she must be on the account to be able to do this. That is completely rediculous, your cousin should try and get some $ back if posssible, probably not if she is like that. I am very sorry for her

wow I would be so mad. my family is paying for our whole wedding. if they suddenly took our money I'd disown them. that's just wrong at least ask or discuss it. that's almost like stealing.

My aunt is the manager of the bank so unfortunately they have access whether theyre on the account or not. My sister used to work there too and was just a cashier and whenever i owed her money i gave her permission to take it out, and there was never a problem.

It really ***** for her, and shes is thinking of moving out thank god. What really ***** is that her parents have money, so why they did this to her is beyond me.
