My cruise on the 'battered' Norwegian Dawn

My cruise on the 'battered' Norwegian Dawn

Hello all--for all of you planning a cruise for your Honeymoon-I thought this might be helpful!!

Well, besides the freak wave and the storm we were 'riding'--the food was pretty decent and the service was excellent. The freesyle ding was def a good thing! They had great outside entertainers (Ed Alonzo and the Edge).

However, we were scehduled to stop in Nassau Bahamas, which was cancelled b/c the ship had to be back by 5:00 a.m. on the day of return (instead of 8:00 a.m.) due to 'orders from the Port of NY'.

When we arrived onboard, we learned that it was actually an event on the ship happening (rumored to be a commercial filming for the cruise line). We each received a $50 credit for the inconvenience of missing Nassau Bahamas.

Then we sailed into a storm and the ship gets crushed by a huge wave! Everything in our stateroom fell to the ground and our bed was swaying from left to right! QUite an experience. Everyone will received a 50% return on what you paid for your ticket and 50% off a future cruise-- but the $50 for missing Nassau made many very angry!

I hope no one who booked a cruise for their honeymoon is worried--all cruise lines will be extremely cautious from now on for sure!!

I heard they were playing the theme from Titanic after the wave disaster!

Some woman was giving her full report this morning on WBLI.

I couldn't believe they played that song!!!!!

We leave for our cruise next weekend so when I heard that story on the news about the ship getting hit by the wave I was like

I'm glad you're ok though, and it's good to hear that you got half your money back!

Glad to hear you came back safe and sound after such an adventure!

50% back on this cruise and 50% off next cruise is a pretty nice offer. However I do have to admit missing Nassau Bahamas does stink!

Wow! I am so glad to hear that you and DH were unhurt.. that's most important. Getting the money back was nice of them - unless the captain saw the wave and decided to test his ship, it wasn't their fault.

Re: My cruise on the 'battered' Norwegian Dawn

Thanks all!!!

It was such an experience!! How many people can say they were in a strom w/40 foot waves!!!!!!!

The wave actually hit in the middle of the storm--after it calmed a bit. I hear the Captain is being criticized for going out into the storm in the first place. It wil be interesting to see what happens.

It was a very rough ride from the storm--that's when all the damage was done-not from the wave I don't think-- we were on deck 11 and I didn't even realize the wave hit until I heard an announcemnet. It was actually pretty cool once I got over my fear--I actually slept through most of the storm (kind of).

I agree--we should try not to live in fear-- it was a freak thing I guess. The ship's are so big--it would take a lot to sink one!!!!

I am going on the Dawn in May, and I was scared my cruise was going to be cancelled. I have been on about 12 cruises and my parents have been on about 30. We have both experience bad weather but, not that bad. To say you will never go on a cruise again is crazy!
I hope we don't have to skip Bahamas like you did, I will be pissed.

Glad to hear that you're ok! I'm sure it was really scary and you have every right to be upset. Not sure when you'll be going on another cruise, but they did a good thing by giving you 50% off. Thanks for the info, nice to hear it!

I am so sorry for your experience. At least they gave you 1/2 off now and in the future.

I was wondering if anyone from here was on that ship. It sounds like they did the right thing - giving you all 50% off. Hopefully you can use that discount for a cruise to the Bahamas.
