My crystal was discontinued...

OK so here I am 1-2 weeks before my pending shower and I get notice from Fortunoff (via e-mail) that Waterford discontinued the water goblet from the design we chose. Nobody has purchased any of our crystal yet and we are venturing over to MACY's and Fortunoff today to make some changes before we get stuck. I am glad they contacted us. Though i did email them back and asked why they didnt discontinue the wine glasses. They said they may just stop making the line after a certain amount have been made. I guess that means that they may still have stock but just not making anymore. If I had the money and time to trapse around and buy them all myself I would but I cant! We registered for 16 of each!

Oh that really stinks. Since they emailed you does that mean they don't have any in stock and won't get it in? I guess it makes sense to see if you find something else you like in case you buy them for yourself a little at a time if you don't get all 16 for the shower. By the way, I've decided to register and have a shower after all. I was going back and forth with it but everyone has told me I'm nuts...I'm the bride and should have a shower, no matter what my age.

If you don't see anything that you really love... and they are still in stock... Why dont' you just tell your mother to give word out that you really want the crystal b/c it is being discontinued... and maybe you can get it all... Your shower is only 1-2 wks away... I am sure they have more then 16 glasses at assorted fortunoffs and Macys.

If not, then get what you get, and return them later once you find something that you really like!

I think it means they stopped making them. Between the Macy's and Fortunoff (where I registered for the crystal) and probably Bloomingdales, I bet we could get 16 wine and 16 water goblets though not all at once. It will cost us $800.

Yeah we are hoping to get at least half of them because then we can buy the rest ourselves. We chose Summer Breeze because it was swirly (no rough pointy cuts)

and thought it went nicely with the flowy nature of Opal Innocence from Lenox:

That stinks! That happened with us with our silverware we registered for. Luckily nobody had purchased any yet and we were able to find something very similar.

Yeah we bought out our formal flatware when they had a buy 2 get one free sale and my sisters wanted to give us e-gifts so we didnt end up spending too much. We DO need the serving pieces though.

Leslie..I used to work for Waterford..They have a lifetime replacement warranty....even if they are discontinued..

If those are the ones you really love and can't find any else that you like...you can always special order them and they(waterford) is always guaranteed to have them......they just take a little while to come in.....go to www.waterford.com

both the sets of china i registered for at BBB and Crate and Barrel were both discontinued..i have to go back and pick new dishes and i don't want to because i love the dishes we already picked out! so i know EXACTLY how you feel!

our casual china was discontiued shortly after we got it and we didn't get all of it. I go to replacements.com to get extra pieces so if you don't get all of them you can get more from them.

Thanks. I tend not to like sharp straight cuts. I am also particular about having a decent thick stem as the people in our families are heavy handed and not too gentle!

Im doing some preliminary research. We decided that we will wait it out and see if anyone buys it for us. Even if they buy half, I think we can cover the other half in a couple of months from various stores in the area or through replacement companies.
