we are both in the bridal party, but he is the bestman. the groom is his best friend. Is it ok for him to just write a toast to the groom about all the times they've had together? Would you get offened as the bride if the toast did not include you? TIA

I think he at least has to mention the bride and their future life together. I think I would be a little offended if he left that out.

I agree - I dont know if I'd be offended... but it may look a little weird to the guests if he didn't congratulate the both of them.

I've been to weddings where the BM made a toast and didn't mention the bride at all. (that was horrendous) If he doesn't know the bride well then I suggest keeping it short and sweet. It's not a roast for the groom, it's a toast to their new life.

I was annoyed that the BM barely spoke about me in his speech - and he was the first member of the family that I got to know.

our BM started out by telling a story about Jake from when they were little and then worked it in to how we are perfect for each other and all that jazz

I think you have to mention the bride- other wise it would be odd

i think he should mention her
maybe say that 'when i met jane i knew right away she was meant for john. she is the only one that can tolerate his (insert funny habit here'
etc.

i definitely think she needs to be mentioned- the toast should be to both people

Oh yeah, when the BM said his speech, he went on and on about growing up with the groom and how much fun they had and the stupid stuff they did..etc..

His last line was something like, he was glad to know the groom and honored to be is BM. He basically toasted the groom. The crowd didn't know if that was the end of the toast or not and nobody did anything. You could here a pin drop.

Then the bride's father got up and spoke for 15 minutes all about his daughter and when he met her husband..

He made it better. I was so embarassed and hurt for the bride though. Clearly, her father was not prepared to make a speech, he was just winging it.

I agree... if he is the best friend, he must know the bride in some capacity and mention something about her...even if it's to wish them a happy marriage together

Yes, I would be offended. The toast should at least mention the bride.

Its ok if the main part of the speech is about him, but he should tie it up with when the bride and the groom met, and how perfect they are together, and wish them luck.

DHs BM started out talking about growig up with DH and what a good friends they are... and then talked about when DH 'started talking about this girl he had met', and then went on to talk about a cruise that me, DH ( bf at the time), the best man, and his girlfriend went on right after college and how he knew then that DH and i were perfect for each other. and then he mentioned how quickly i fit in with the group of friends and then said ' now you have teh responsibility to let luke come out and play- and we expect you to come too'
so it was a really nice combination of things... but i definitely think the bride needs to be mentioned. i'm sure your Dh has hung out with his friends future wife a couple of times... he should be able to come up with something to say... good luck!
