my disappointing yet funny experience @ Domain

DH and i went furniture browsing this weekend and stopped into domain across from the walt whitman mall. i spotted a round kitchen table that i like and wanted to inquire about additional colors and finishes.

i asked the saleslady if the table was available in any other finish than the antique ivory that was shown. she responded w/ 'no but it comes in other sizes and styles'. she took us into the back and showed us a rectangular table in the same finish. i asked the size of the table and she said 'about 5' i guess and i think it comes w/ leaves'. next question, 'does the table came in other finishes'. she responded w/ 'no, but it comes in other colors'. she then proceeded to show us the ploi and company book. i found a table that i liked and asked the price in the 2-tone finish that we wanted. she flipped to the back of the book and said, 'all custom orders are discounted 20%'. i looked at DH dumbfounded (#1 because how could a custom finish which requires more labor be 20% less than a standard finish and #2 why the H E L L is she not answering my questions). i again ask the price and she says, 'ummm around $3000'. mind you this was a 60' round pedestal table w/ no leaves. there is NO WAY that the table is 3k.

on the way out i overheard another customer asking the same lady if the store had a catalog that she could have and the woman said 'no but i have a business card w/ my web email address'.

needless to say, we left the store not only perplexed but somewhat disappointed. we really did like some of their pieces but we were BEYOND turned off by this woman's stupidity.

The Domain store in Manhasset has more competent people, not much, but a little

I bought so much from Domain. Joe Caufield, a designer in the Manhasset branch, is AMAZING!!! He helped me and like everyone else who comes in for him.

Domain is having a sale on custom ordered furniture. Its all 20% off. So she was accurate. They don't have a catalog. It was probably $3000 with the chairs.
