my DIY aisle runner (with pics!)
After admiring everyone else's DIY aisle runners, I've finally attempted my own this weekend.
Just wanted to add my DIY directions below, considering I'm so appreciative that others have done that so I could make this in the first place.
I used the runner that my RH gave me and blue fine-tip Sharpie markers. The font is a free downloadable called SaffronToo that matches our invitation and monogram font (Shelly Script). Since I don't have Publisher or Adobe InDesign, I used MS Word to enlarge the font size, printing only a few letters on each page, meaning I had to cut and tape words together. I printed out all the text first, then cut and taped it all together in strips and numbered each strip so I wouldn't get confused. I used the large cardboard backing from my classroom chart paper pads as my background on the floor, and covered that with wax paper. Then I taped the text down, making sure to center each line. I rolled out the runner over the text to where I wanted it, and traced with pencil first, then outlined with the marker, then filled in the letters. Just be careful to keep paper or wax paper under your hand, because the Sharpie has a tendency to lift up, and I'm sitting here with hands like a Smurf right now!
I LOVE the poem 'i carry your heart with me' by e.e. cummings, so I printed the text for the first stanza and centered each line.
I still need to enlarge our 'C' initial for the last name and center that into our monogram. That's a project for tomorrow. I'd also like to add silver highlights to shadow our names and date, but I'm going to play around with paper first just in case it doesn't look right. I may also add some silver hearts here and there to match the heart punch-out design I'm using on our program covers. Not sure yet.
