my DIY bilingual invites done! w/ instructions and vent!
Finally last one sealed and will go out in mail tomorrow. I'm not even going to bother hand canceling this I'm so over these invites!
Step 1:
I designed the invites in Illustrator with some inpirations from other ones I've seen. I wanted to have my FMIL preview it. I only had cheap copy paper and photo paper so I thought I'd print it on photopaper so she can see the colors. She liked it, ok next step..
Step 2:
I know I wanted lined envelopes, so I searched for paper (papermojo.com) wanted something fresh and modern.. found it! Found the ribbon on a florist supply site, it was on sale for pennies and I bought all they had, they only sent me 3 rolls because thats all left, forgot what the site was.
Step 3:
So I went through a whole ordeal finding someone who would letterpress my design in my budget. I got a sample and showed my FMIL, she said 'Oh, I liked them on the other paper better'... are you kidding me?!?!?! In fact she loved it on photo paper (cheapest HP photo paper). oy vey..
Step 4: I detested the photo paper, but if I did the inserts in a better quality paper the main invite would look cheap, so I tried regular white brand cardstock (Staples).. voila ... eh it worked I guess..
Step 5:
Pocketfold. My colors are inpired by melon salad. watermelon canteloupe and honeydew. I thought all those colors on an invite would be a bit loud so I did navy (saphire from cardsandpockets.com) metalic pocketfold to match FH wedding suit.
Step 6:
many painstaking hours of printing on both laser and ink jet, getting sizes right, cutting with cheap dull cutting tools, frustrating over colors etc etc...
Strep 7:
really sad I couldn't have my cotton paper and my letterpress ... I decided to do something a littly nuts. I got the big cotton envelopes for letterpress and printed laser caligraphy on them. (crane.com)I loved the result! I love how white the paper is!
Step 8:
Designing the stamps! (www.zazzle.com)
by now I was so sick of thse things, I just wanted it over, I slapped some graphics on there and hit send. I wasn't even that careful with postage in fact I overpaid a bit. I wish I took more time, I didn't really love my stamps as much as I should.
Step 9:
Put all the pieces together
Ok so there where more steps like step 1a. redesigning everything in different colors about a million times...
I have no idea what I spent over all. But I can tell you too much because I tried a lot of different things and wasted a lot of different kinds of paper. And the stupid stamps, I'm so mad at the post office they weighed them and told me $1. I added some photos to them and so I thought it would cost more to send. I came back with all my envleopes and to the same worker, and she said why did you pay so much, its only $.79. I wanted to kill her!!
And she wouldn't handcancel my envelopes... anyway its over.
