My dress came in and is HUGEEEEEEE...anyone have that happen?

Ok ladies I am coming to your board because you all were such beautiful brides and I am in need of some encouragement Please post if something similar happened to you and how it all worked out in the end.

I was measured for my gown in Aug 07 and yesterday I went to see it for the first time and try it on. It seriously was at least 2 sizes to big. My bridal party had such concerned looks on their faces because even pinned and clamped it was almost falling off me.

I chose this specific gown because of the detailed beading in the bodice and now am afraid the alterations to make it so much smaller are going to ruin the look of the gown

P.S. I lost a total of 5 pounds since August and my goal weight is 10 pounds from my current weight.

I didn't have that problem but I have heard some people say that the bridal shops do that on purpose so they can make money on the alterations!!!

Things could be much much much worse ... it could be 2 sizes too small

Since they are the ones who took your measurements, if they haven't changed all that much (5 lbs shouldn't make a huge difference) .... let them see what they can do.

BUT if the dress doesn't look right when they've made the alterations, then I think you should insist that they order you a brand new one in the right size!

Good luck!!!!

That's what I am worried about. It took this dress 6 months to come in and my first fitting will be only 6 weeks from my wedding date.

They can take it in-be sure to tell them that if the dress does not look right once taken in that they WILL be rush ordering you a brand new dress. Make sure they know this.

Exactly! Just be happy it was big and not too small.

This happened to me. They convinced me to order a size 16 dress when I was pregnant 'just in case' I didn't lose the weight from the baby. I lost 50 pounds. the dress was a tent on me.

I panicked at first but the seamstress worked wonders. I actually had NO FAITH that the dress would look right so I bought a 2nd dress off the rack & I really didn't need to because 4 days before my wedding both dresses fit & looked great.

That was going to be my plan as well. I totally have no faith I am going to a different bridal shop which has my dress as a sample in a size 18. After trying it on I will contact the salon my dress is from to see if we can reorder the smaller size.

That will give you a pretty good idea of sizing.

Just be careful with doing that because sometimes the sample dresses can be stretched out a little, from all the brides getting in and out of them, squeezing into them and such.

Just be careful, the samples are usually stretched and are not true to size b/c of people getting in and out of them. My dress came in a whole size too small-i would be happy that its bigger and not smaller...trust me this caused SOO much stress its not funny!!

Ok so I didn't have baby weight on me ,but I had more weight than I wanted on during that time and YES THIS HAPPENED TO ME TOO!
I was a true size 9 when they measured me so they wanted to order me this Ridiculous size of 14 or order a muslum!

I said to them I DON'T THINK SO , I am on a diet and plan on losing the weight so NO WAY! I got them to agree to ordering a size 10 after fitting 2 they said o.k b/c my measurements were than a true 8.It still really was stupid to b/c when the dress finally came in it was swimming on me! I was a true size 6 for the wedding and I needed the 8. The sample 8 I could get into just fine just a bit snug.

Bottom line. - b/c I had a 10 all the d a m n lines changed on the gown to make into a 6! Needless to say I was VERY unhappy during every fitting which weren't many b/c the dress came late!!!

I didn't know how I would pull it off or how the seamstress would
The girl did the best she could but unfortunately she had to make a seem where there was NONE on the opposite side and I was really PIST! It fit o.k for my wedding but not Great, it was still big in the bodice.
it was twisting and sliding all over ( I could see it in my video too)
I hope you didn't go where I went ! They made a fortune on my alterations. FM me for that info.uGGGGG

so I totally can relate Sorry your going through it - I don't wish it on any Bride!
