My dress cost WHAT??!!!!

My dress cost WHAT??!!!!

Hi Gals,
So i went dress shopping with my mom yesterday. it was ok. I brought a list of dress #'s that i got on line to the stores and tried on dresses. I really want to stay in budget. and of course everything i liked was so out of my budget. the dress i liked (picturee below) is jasmine couture at $1500. a friend of a friend's sister paid $1100 for that same dress at another store. I'm definitly gonna shop around. they said they would try to match prices if i found it lower.
two of my co-workers each got dresses for 3k and 5k!!! I can't see spending that much for a dress i wear once. i'd rather the money go toward something else. I've been to David's bridal where the dresses are cheaper, but i didn't find anything that i like.
Am i living under a rock that i don't know what the average cost of a dress is??

Any thought or ideas??
Any sugestions on where else to look??
Thanks

I had the same dilemma when shopping for dresses. I wanted to stay under 1k but the dress I liked was about 4k I went to so many places. In the end I found something very similar at Village Bridal in Babylon for under 1k. Go there and also RK Bridal in the city. They have tons of dresses under 1k. I'm pretty sure they carry Jasmine Couture. Good Luck

RK Bridals,

You won't find lower prices anywhere and then you can take your price and get it matched somewhere else (if it's closer for you)

I haven't shopped for my own dress yet but I went about a year and a half ago with my best friend and the dressed she saw in Bridal Reflections ranged from $1000.00 upwards to about 4-5K. Most dresses she saw there that we actually liked ranged between 1-2.5K and ultimately she settled on a $1500.00 dress. I don't think your expectations are off, you just have to remember that when you look in magazines and such they usually always show the expensive gowns because that is what people will see and therefore want. Like the Jewelry/ dresses/ Jeans in any fashion magazine. I don't know anyone who will go spend $15,000 on an everyday ring, or $500 for a pair of jeans but that is what they show to get you interested and into a store. You can always find similar stuff at a lesser price.

edited because I can't spell...

Definitely try RK Bridal - they have a TON of gorgeous dresses at amazing prices. I also had a specific budget in mind and knew that spending thousands and thousands of $$$ wasn't an option.

I'm not sure if this was a reply yet, but I have to mention

www.houseofbrides.com

I found the dress I love in Estelle's, and it was $899, I went on houseofbrides and found it for $519. House of brides carries all kinds of designers that you find in stores and most of the prices are listed and listed by MFG # so there's no funny business with MFG #'s...haha!! I've heard from a couple of girls that have ordered from there and haven't had a problem. For me that works because my aunt is going to do my alterations anyway. Here's the other dress I'm looking at...I think this is the one, no one has it so I can try it on, but I think I may order it...it's $519 or $539 online, but I haven't seen it in the stores so I'm not sure how much they carry it for, but I'm sure that it's more than $519!!! Check it out on this link:

Has anyone else ordered from houseofbrides.com?

PS, I just looked and Jasmine is one of the only designers that you actually have to call to get a price, but I think some of the designers want to keep it somewhat private for whatever reason.

Removed post, I'm sorry you found my opinion so offensive.

I honestly really didn't mean to offend with previous post, just my opinion of myself.

You girls are all gorgeous and can probably pull of anything, I feel I need a bit more, and most dresses did nothing for me.

I went to Helens Bridal and I got my Maggie Sottero for under $1,000. You should check them, they are great

thanks girls. keep the suggestion comming!!!

Ys wedding: in reguards to what you said about cheap dresses- a friend of mine told me that same thing. she couldn't get over how an inexpensive dress looked aweful compared to a more expensive one that was done nicer. she couldn't get over how aweful some of the dresses were at Davids and when she tried on the more expensive dress it was easy to see how much better it was made.
my plan is to find a beautiful well made dress without going broke.

I'm going to sound like such a snob, but I have to say this, when I tried on dresses the 1k dresses felt like 1k dresses, they were poorly shaped, beading was done very slopy in haphazard patterns, or the lace was cheap, the fabrics where the poorest quality, and the colors seemed off. The whites look too stark and the ivories looked very yellow.

Maybe for wearing it for one day, its not a big deal.

I also had issues with my size and shape, so very few things worked.

But when I tried on my dress but

there was no turning back

it was like made for me

Yes. You sound like a snob. I guess I will wear my poorly shaped, sloppy, cheap lace dress on my wedding day.

I can't afford to go overboard on my dress, and I know that I will find the most beautiful dress within my budget. There are so many beautiful and affordable dresses out there.

I would go with netbrides.com they will beat any houseofbrides quote and are way more reliable.

I ordered flower girls dresses from them.

Also, sorry didn't mean to offend with previous post, just my opinion for myself.

Burtons in Huntington will match or beat prices, so do get a quote from them. They were great to work with.

I completely agree. That comment was out of line and you came of extremely snobby. My 'cheap' dress looked amazing and was not poorly or sloppily made. Fortunatly most things fit me well so my options were very open. I would bet most of the girls on here fall into that 'cheap dress' category.

i had serious issues finding a dress...i originally said i wasn't spending over 1500, but after months of not liking anything..i upped my price range to 3000, and found my dress...i tried on dresses that were over 3 and then stopped myself! i didn't want to even have a chance of liking them!!!
