So we were talking about where I will be going to look at dresses. Of course my first pick is Kleinfeld's as when I was a little girl I would go shopping in Bay Ridge every day with my grandma and always remember passing the old Kleinfeld's that was there and saying how when I get married I want my dress from there. My mom says 'oh you're gonna have something with a high neck and sleeves'. I thought she was joking but turns out she wasn't. She said how she really disliked my cousin's dress bc it was strapless with no neck or sleeves. Now this is exactly what I planned on getting. I joked around with her saying this isn't the 70's or 80s when she got married and puffy sleeves and big hair were in style lol. This should be fun shopping with her.

Re: My family is stuck in the 80s
Once you put on something you like and glow in your mom will love it too.... she will see the expression on your face and just know that, that gown was made for you....
and if not, my cousin wore a high neck and sleeves at her wedding 5 years ago, and believe it or not it was gorgeous!

FMIL was talking about how 'women are practically naked' at their weddings.
Both her daughters had strapless, though.
I know my mom was covered neck to wrists, though. So was my aunt in 1992. But times have changed. Unless you are a conservative Jew, most stores have the majority of dresses as strapless

Re: My family is stuck in the 80s
just FYI Kleinfelds in no longer in Bay Ridge.
my friends mom wanted her to save a similar dress with a lace neck & sleeves. but my friend wanted strapless. so what she did was have this small piece of lace material made to wear on her neck at chuch & then her strapless dress at the reception. its an idea. i will look for a picture tonight

you probably dont have to worry too much because most stores barely carry dresses of that style anymore.

LOL, my sister had a dress like this when she got married in 1991. She said to me the other day 'too bad I gave my dress to charity, maybe you could've worn it.' I was like ummmmmmmmmmm NO!

Ha Ha my Grandma said the same thing about strapless gowns. They are just all the rage right now. Its hard to find styles that shy away from that. I think for my Grandma, its the modesty piece. Churches used to have strict restrictions on allowing girls to wear strapless gowns.
