I have a question for my fellow teachers or anyone else with kids who can help.
I want to take my small class (5 students--they are 5th Grade Special Ed) pumpkin picking sometime next week. Can you recommend a farm that isn't too far from Queens (pref. Queens or Nassau) with other stuff to do as well--maybe like hay rides or something to that effect? The kids need to be constantly entertained..>LOL.
Thanks!!!

Try Green Meadows Farm. Its right in Queens but I do not have a number to give you. I took my students there a few years. They loved it and they get to get the pumpkin after they go through the farm and on the hay rides. Its a guided tour of the farm.

Re: My Fellow Teachers
The Queens County Farm is another option but trips aren't that simple. You need to request permission from the school - sometimes even higher than that (last year I had to request permission from the region for a trip) - and then you need to send out permission slips, collect money, book a bus. It's a lot of work and I'm sorry to say you might be too late for this year. You can't just show up to these places for a class trip - you need to book it with them. A lot of those pumpkin farm places book very early. You might be lucky enough to be able to book something after Halloween but I think this might be too last minute. Sorry to be the barer of bad news!

LOL...thanks for the input! I actually am well aware of all of the 'red tape' that I need to go through....but I think considering that I only have 5 kids things usually get pushed along easier for my class. I'm still going to try and if worse comes to worse, I will take them to the supermarket and have them pick out and weigh pumpkins there!!

I don't know any places near Queens, but I think it is a great idea to go and do that...have fun and good luck!
