My FH wants to change photographers...

We booked with VIP last spring and we've heard so many scary stories about them not to mention John's tendency to 'forget' things. We have been waiting for an updated contract since October! We had met with Patken before we booked VIP and loved them but VIP gave us a better package at a cheaper price so we went with them. Now my FH (and I to tell the truth) are having second thoughts. We loved Patken's work, but I'm worried about losing the deposit. What would you do? Then again Patken may be booked for our day since its only 8 months away. Opinions?

Re: My FH wants to change photographers...

I would first find out if Patken has your date available (it's possible if you are flexible in regards to the actual photographer) I would then find out what the policy is on your deposit with the photographer you already booked. If it's at al possible, I recommend going for what will make you the happiest- pictures are your memories that will last a lifetime!!!

I'm using VIP, and I think you just have to hound them. We booked them because we got the best deal. I've heard mixed reviews on here, but I'm sure you'll be fine.

I agree. Sometimes its good to go with your gut instinct. I'm sure that VIP will do a great job. A few brides on here used them and there pics are great.

Re: My FH wants to change photographers...

Did you leave a large deposit? I would see what their policy is regarding deposits...it's hard for you because you don't have a contract in front of you. I would call them...have them fax you your contract. Your photos are very important. If you're second guessing your first choice and your heart is set on another photographer, IMO, I'd go with my heart. Before you make any decisions though, I would call Patken to see if your date is available.

Re: My FH wants to change photographers...

You will probably lose your deposit if you switch. Most vendors tell you it is non-refundable. Patken probably has your date available because they have so many photographers that work for them. You'd have to check to see if you like the work of any of the ones who are available. In the end, you have to be comfortable with your choice. It might cost you more money to switch, but if it eases your concerns it's worth it. Follow-up with your original photographer and see how you feel after that. You'll know what to do.

I'm a VIP bride and very happy with VIP! We got over 800 proofs!!! John didn't 'forget' anything on my wedding day.

But you need to go with your gut and do whats best for you and your DF.

Re: My FH wants to change photographers...

thanks all! sorry i am thanking you so late.. its been a crazy week. we are going to see patken this weekend to see if/who is available and go from there. our e-pics with vip were pretty but it was raining that day and he got a lot of shots of us hiding under tress covered in rain spots which was sort of romantic but a bit chancey. also my FH had his sleeve caught up in a few pictures which bugged him.... i'm just going to leave it up to this weekend and if the guy we wanted at patken is available i think we may take it as a sign.
