My FI was just asked to be in a wedding, and he has a question about gifts..
He was asked to be GM in his friends wedding, he heard that he shouldn't buy a gift for the couple because he is in the wedding party. and had to buy his tux.. I said.. THAT IS WRONG.. of course you SHOULD buy a gift,and a nice gift, because it's your good friend.. WHat do you think???

im 50/50 on that
you have to pay things out of pocket like b-party, tux and whatever else may be needed.
on the other hand... if he is my friend, yet i would buy him something
depending on the friend, i wouldn't..i think it's not expected cause you have a role in the wedding

me too...
i voted yes for a gift, but it doesn't have to be extravagant.
i was a little peeved at spending $1500 on my FH's best friend's wedding last summer, especially since we had a double whammy because his sister got married the same month as well. $$$ for OOT guests adds up REAL quick, that is why i told my OOT BM's all she has to do is show up and i will take care of the rest...

I definitely think he needs to give a gift. If he was not a GM, and just a guest, he obviously would have given one, and when you accept the honor of being in someone's wedding party, you accept the expenses that go along with it. It doesn't preclude giving a gift.

he should give a gift definitly but i dont think he is expected to give a large gift because he does have alot of other expenses being in the wedding.
