my fiance has a migraine

does anyone have a home remedy that can ease a migraine? My fiance occasionally gets migraines and I feel helpless at the moment?

They are the worst and unfortunatelly I get them often. I need complete quiet, all lights off, pitch black, advil, and sometimes a warm cloth over my eyes. I really think the best cure for me is to try my best to sleep through it. If it gets real bad, vomiting etc you can go to the hospital and they have things to give you. Good luck and hang in there. Make sure you do all those things and let me know how he does. I hope he feels better!

You should really have migraine medication on hand just in case it happens again. I have a very bad migraine disorder and I never go anywhere without my IMITREX. Its the best drug in creation. It works within 20-25 minutes and I am completely new again. Any doctor will have samples. My FH is a doc in Suffolk if you need info FM me!

Of course take some type of med but I also find that a mentholated rub like vicks on the temples helps alot.

I use Imitrex too. It is a God-send.

Re: my fiance has a migraine

Its the weather. When the humidity is so high like this, I'm a goner. I had to stay home from work Monday because I could hardly see out of my right eye. Those things like Imitrex don't work for me. Excedrin works. The Vicks vapo-rub on the temples works for me too. Drinking something like gatorade in small sips helps. Anything salty helps- particularly chicken broth, believe it or not. Tomato soup. I kid you not. I'm a nurse- I've been to doctors before, those are the only things that work for me. sometimes a frappucino helps. I figure its the caffeine and salt that help me.
Essential oils like lavender and chamomile and peppermint- I have a 'corn husk' bag that has lavender buds in it- I pop it in the freezer and lay it across my eyes and it makes me feel better.

Here are things that I know make it worse for me- chocolate, any type of aged cheeses like blue or roquefort, wine with sulfides.

When I was sick on Monday, though, the only thing that made me feel better was throwing up. Sometimes you just have to get it out. A migraine to me is like a really bad hangover without the party. Have your FH experiement- whatever works for him should be what he uses. I don't question the fact that a bowl of campbell's tomato soup makes my head stop pounding- I'm just glad that it does!

I hope he's feeling better.

just make sure he see's a doctor. Imitrex and other triptans work for over 90% of patients. I hope he feels better. I feel his pain!!

i get migranes every so often..
have him take ibprofin and lay in a dark room and press an icepack on his forehead.
and just wait it out.... that's pretty much all you can do...

another remedy that i havent tried is to breathe deeply into a paper bag...

i hope he feels better!

I get that too!!! Tension in the neck and back can and WILL cause a migraine for people who normally get them. Its STINKS!!! I hate dealing with this, I've been getting migraines since I was 19 and I'm 31 now. My mother used to get them until she went through menopause. Then it just stopped!! I have a long way to go!!!!

I get migraines pretty often, when I do I take relplex. I take it and rest for 30mins. Works wonders.

Re: my fiance has a migraine

I also get terrible headaches, sometimes if I'm having a bad week with them it'll be 3 or more times a week. My remedy is hard to explain, but I'll do my best, there is a certain pressure point nerve in between your pointer finger and thumb (that soft part of your hand, if you lay your other thumb right next to the one thumb you can feel it, if you apply pressure by squeezing it hard, you'll know if your pressing it hard enough cause it'll cause a kind of weird feeling), if you press a lot in there it might help. A little while later you'll notice that the pain is easing up. It takes a little practice to find the right spot, but my FH does it for me all the time, and it works great. Sometimes even if it doesn't cause it to fully go away, it at least eases it up to more of a numb pain.

Also if you press the under side of your toes where your foot meets into your toes, you might feel some relief. The nerves in your feet are actually somewho connected up there in your head. Feet actually have a lot of pressure points all over, that help with different pains, but under the toes is for your head.

Just press these different areas hard, and hopefully it will help. Hope I explained well enough, it's easier to demonstrate, but it does work for me. Good luck!
