My first big problem

My first big problem

MY dress. I have a very specific dress in mind. I want a feathered dress, I am soooo set on it. The problem is that I am a big girl! I am plus sized I wear a 16 in street clothing (just lost 54 pounds woo hoo!) and I have a very big top. Some of the dresses that I love are Vero by ines di santo, and YSA MAKINO dresses 2666, 2803 and 2811. I know that drop waist is the right cut for me, but does anyone know where they stock designer dresses that are not a size 10? I am terrified that I can't even try them on or if I do I will rip them or look like a deranged chicken :( I called two bridal salons on the island and the made me feel like shoe poo saying that designer like that aren't for big girls (Then why do they come up to a size 20?!? ::end rant::) Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated! Any place that has great CS or large selections for bigger girls? I am sorry for the rant, but I couldn't even sleep last night I was so upset, and the fiance wouldn't understand

thanks in advance

I am the same size as you and they had dresses that were big enough to fit on me. I didn't bother calling places to see if they carried my size samples and just showed up. Maybe just go to some stores and see what they have. The sales people don't always know every dress and size that they have at the store.

First, I love the dress style that you have chosen! I'm a street size 16 as well, and when going to bridal salons unfortunately most of the dresses are in smaller sizes. The only place that I visited that had a wide range of sizes is David's Bridal. Try out Kleinfeld, they seem to have a selection of dresses in plus size as well as the brands that you are looking at.
I visited Bridal Reflections Massepequa, Macys Salon Manhasset, RK Bridal, Davids, and none made me feel uncomfortable when I didn't fit perfectly in a sample. I was always able to gauge whether I loved or hated the style, even if it couldn't zip.

Just pick a few stores and go shopping! Enjoy the process.

In my experience most stores will carry 10, even though the dress sizes come in larger sizes. The stores just don't want to pay for the 20 samples I think which is stupid since lots of people are over a size 10 bridal!
Occasionally 12 or 20 in certain designers, but they can clip you in to a 10 if there is a dress you love.

Good luck!

Congrats on the weight loss too! That's amazing! How did you do it? I need to do it.

Just go into stores, they will clip the dress to your bra so no need to worry about it fitting. And Plenty of stores carry 10,12 & 14 & 16 so you can clip from there. Some even put a peice in the back to cover your back from exposure and give you the feel of the dress.

Congrats on the weight loss as well!!!! That is so awesome!

First of all congrats on loosing 50 pounds thats freaking amazing and you should be so so proud of yourself!!!!!!!!

I totally feel your pain with this situation. I lost 20 pounds last year (still trying to loose another 15) Before i lost any weight i went to one bridal shop that only carried sample size 8. I left there in tears and it was pretty much the worst experience. I suggest going to bridal stores that carry samples in close to your size (and trust me their are many bridal stores that have that!)

Because you want a couture dress, have you thought about going to klienfields? I bet you could find something like this there!!

Also those dresses are beautiful!!!

Kleinfelds. I thought I was going to have a major problem when I was trying on wedding dresses, but at Kleinfelds, they were so determined to make me happy and the sample size of the dress I wanted was 8 sizes smaller then I wear on the street. They got me in it, and I immediately knew I found my dress. There was alittle bit of a stigma at other bridal shops I went to that gave me severe anxiety about not only will I fit in a sample, but do they even have nice dresses in a 16, ect. Kleinfelds went above and beyond to help me, and I can't rave enough about them. Their selection is amazing, and price point is all over the board. You definitely don't need 10K to get a dress there, they have a huge selection under 2K. Good luck!

I am an 18 in bridal and I got my dress at David's Bridal. I know it isn't most people's first choice for designer gowns, but I wanted to try something on that fit and I absolutely fell in love with my dress there. They have so many styles there, more than you would probably even realize and they have so many dresses that resemble other designers dresses. There is a dress for everyone there and every style. Give it a shot. You may be surprised. Bring in pictures of ones you like and they will find similar ones for you, and don't be afraid to try other styles on that you would not normally pick for yourself. You never know!

Good luck and have fun throughout the process. You only get to do this once (hopefully, lol)
