I spent 900 on books last semester, that what happens when you got those superstar professors that are always on the History channel they want you to buy all of this ish. This year I am taking my science requirement so I should add 400 to the last bill, it's so ridiculous!!!

I start school next week. I'm only taking one class so hopefully there wont be too many books. I was a History/Education major for my undergrad so I was always spending 700 a semester on used books its so ridic

FH actually is starting school for the first time in years on Tuesday. He's super nervous and like you is dreading the purchase of the books. It's ridiculous how much of a mark up there is. Talked FH into purchasing online to save money.

My school has a network where we buy used books from each other but it still adds up, one teacher alone wanted 14 books a course manual with selected readings basically photocopies in cheap azz binding for 50 bucks. I guess they figure you spend 50K on tuitions whats almost a grand on books?

I have has a BN membership since high school and it's rocks, i use it mostly for my own personal reading choices since I am a book worm.

i went back to school yesterday too. i was miserable the whole day. i have 4 classes & a lab. i am at school from 8AM until 4PM. all i kept reminding myself was that in May i am finished with school forever.

as for my books: i pre ordered everything from either half.com or textbooks.com.
my sister who is pre-nursing spent over $700 & shes not finished yet. she has a poster of a skeleton hanging in my moms dinning room & a disecting kit in the kitchen.

Re: My first day of school...

i learned this little tip halfway through college... DO NOT USE THE BOOKSTORE - find out what texts you need ahead of time, buy off of half.com or ebay and then sell back on the net. (I primarily used half.com and it works great) In most cases, I got back about as much as I paid for the book. It just didnt work as well when a new edition came out.
