my first in-law drama

my first in-law drama

so my shower was in Maryland this past weekend (where i'm from) and it was just me, my mom, my sisters and aunts only. I didn't invite my FMIL or FSILs because I didn't want it to seem like I was asking for a gift when I knew they wouldn't be able to come. Well, aparently, they are all REALLY mad at me and I feel like a POS. I'm not sure how to rectify this horrible situation... Any advice?

You can maybe try to explain to them what you just told us, that you did not think that they could make it and you did not want them to think you were just asking for a gift. I'm sorry!!!!!

I would try your hardest to smooth over the situation, it's just added stress that I'm sure you do not need! Just be honest and tell them exactly what you said in the post!

Honesty is the best policy in this situation. But be prepared for them to feel MORE hurt that you didn't consider that they would try to sacrifice to get to Maryland.

I completely agree - just be honest and things will smooth over. They are probably more hurt than anything.

I agree with this one, this is all you can do... and they should understand your reasoning! If they dont understand your reasoning then let it roll off your back, all you can do is appologize and explain y...you didnt want to come across like you were looking for gifts, i would think anyone would appreciate that!

i agree, but then again that could bite you in the butt too. They may be more offended that you thought so little of them, or that they would think so little of you. The problem is that you made a mistake... regardless of whether they can attend or not, they should have been invited. I would try to explain my position and then just apologize and admit that in hind sight you realize that a mistake was made. It'll be tough. Hope it goes well.

Just explain what you just explained to us. Personally, I would be upset too.
