***My First QOTD***

Thanks so much to mlcvln129 for choosing me. I am very excited about being BOTW, but also nervous about having to come up with decent questions. I think since I have been on here I have seen almost every question you can think of, but I will try to be creative and not repeat. No promises.

Here is my first question...
So many of my friends have called me to tell me that they are engaged and they say that they can't remember a word their FH said to them when they asked. They were just in shock. When one of my friends got engaged she refused to go out to dinner that night, so he had to change his plans and asked her on the curb of her apartment. So this question has a few parts...

When FH proposed, did you know it was coming or expect it? Was it how you pictured the proposal would be? Was it how he pictured it, or did he have to adjust his plans?

Do you remember what FH said to you when he proposed? If so what did he say to you, if you don't mind sharing?

Here is my answer...

I expected it to come soon because I had been waiting for over a year and I had flipped out on him only a few weeks before. But honestly I didn't expect it that weekend. FH had told me friend that he had it all planned out and that weekend he was supposed to be camping, but FBIL had his appendix rupture, so his camping trip was cancelled and our trip to the NJ Shore was last minute. I had expected it to be on the NJ Shore, just not that weekend, but the funny thing is he hadn't planned ton do it there. He actually planned to do it the weekend before on Fire Island, but the ring didn't come in on time.

I remember every single word of the proposal. We were standing on the beach with his arms around me in a bare hug. His father was already sick, and I was worried about how he was holding up. I said to him, 'I wish their was something I could do to make things better for you.' He responded with 'their is,' got down on one knee, spun me around and said, 'you can marry me?'

First of all, congrats!! You are going to be a great BOTW

This is a great question-

When FH proposed I definitely wasn't expecting it. I knew he had said we would get engaged over the summer, I didn't think he'd do it on the 4th of July (our anniversary!) LOL
Plus I was totally thrown off because he proposed at 9am which took me off guard.

It was how I pictured it, though because I had said I wanted to be alone and not in a restaurant or public place. We got engaged in our pajamas over bagels and coffee, which was perfect!

And I have no recollection of what he said-I didn't even look at the ring until the next day! LOL

Ok i had no clue it was coming!!
FH proposed to me at a nascar race!! white trash i know!!! lol and Def not how i always imagined it! lol Im my head i always pictured it being while we were away on vacation at some romantic tropical island or something!
but honestly it was perfect! We actually enjoy nascar races and go to the same race every year!
after it happend i wouldnt have rathered it be anywhere else.

it was after the race was over and we were all just hanging out getting ready to cook up some more food! when the FH got up and started making a speech! all i remember was thinking what in the world is he doing? he started saying how what a great weekend he had, and that every year when he comes to this race we always have a good time, but this race was going to be his favorite because there was something he wanted to do. I then saw him pull out the box and started crying, i think he said will you marry me and some other mushy stuff, but my memory is a little fuzzed! haha! It was perfect! and not at all as white trash as it sounds when i tell people he proposed to me at a nascar race! lol

I totally knew it was coming. It was Valentine's Day and we were on a cruise. We had a special dinner booked at their Supper Club, and he was acting weird all day.

My BFF and I went to get our hair done, and we went back to her room after. We had rooms next to each other, and as I was leaving, her FH banged on the wall to warn my FH LOL.

But it was still romantic & perfect...he had the room attendant make the towel animals (swans) and my ring was in the middle. Even though I knew it was coming I totally burst into tears. All I remember him hearing was I love you, will you marry me I had no idea how he would do it, and I was very happy with the way he did. I don't think he had to alter his plans..if he did, he didn't tell me.

Re: ***My First QOTD***

I remember it so clearly. I had recently had foot surgery and couldn't walk. It was week 2 of 6 being off my feet. He'd come home at lunch every day to make something for me, he'd shower me (I had to get a bench and shower sitting down since my foot couldn't get wet) and dress me, etc. I thought, why would anyone in their right mind ever want to be with me through this ordeal? lol

We were sitting on our couch on NYE 08 (couldn't go out because of the foot), watching Entourage reruns and coverage of NYE, and DH popped open a bottle of champagne to get ready for the ball to drop. He gave me my New Year's kiss at 12, and the ring was on pinky (he was hiding it from me in his pocket). He took out his hand and said, 'Will you marry me, baby?'

He had decided about a week earlier that he wanted to propose. He just didn't know when he'd do it. He was going to wait until I was back on my feet (maybe go back home to NY and do it in front of the family or something) but he decided that day that he didn't want to wait anymore! Although I didn't expect to get engaged and I always thought it would happen when I could actually walk, it was perfect!

I didn't see it coming. I thought it would happen in the summer. Two of his close friends just got engaged so I thought he would wait so time.

It was exactly how I pictured it. He took me to our favorite place, Boston, and proposed. I think he had to adjust his plans a little bit. He wanted to propose in the gazebo in the middle of the park. Everytime we walked passed it there were people there. Finally after walking around the park for an hour, the gazebo was empty and perfect for him to propose.

It was short and sweet what he said when he proposed. He just got on one knee and asked will I marry him? He had a tear in his eyes and it was perfect.

I knew it was coming but didn't know where or when until the morning of the day he did it. It was our second anniversary. We were going out to Montauk for the day and I thought I saw the outline of the ring box in his pocket, but I dismissed it.

I honestly don't remember a lot of what he said. He turned around, got down on one knee and opened the ring box and I just started crying! I know he said 'will you marry me' but other than that - it's a blur!

I loved the way FH proposed. I was soo suprised. He proposed to me in the bahamas. It was at night on the beach by the area where they marry couples. We were sitting on a big romantic swing it was perfect. I remember everything he said. He whipspered I love you baby in my ear, then got down on one knee, he was crying and sweaty and was like I love you babe so much will you marry me, it was the sweetest thing ever

Congrats on BOTW!!!

I knew it was coming because we had went ring shopping together on Tuesday of that week. So i figured he was going to do it on Saturday because we had planned on going to City Island. Since he knew i wanted to get surprised even though i knew he had the ring he totally switched his game plan and proposed to me on Thursday of the week while i was at work. It was so cute and super surprising. It was funny because he knew i was having a bad day so he stopped by and gave me a hug and just talked for a few minutes then he started looking thru his bag and just got on one knee and with the ring and said Will you be my wife? I said yessssss!!

Our engagement anniversary was this past Saturday

Re: ***My First QOTD***

FH and I were celebrating our anniversary a few days early, since we had our board interview on our co-op on our anniversary (romantic, I know). The day actually started out in my college town, where we had brunch with some of our best friends (non-related to FH's plans for the day!). Then we drove into the city to go to Top of the Rock at sunset, which we'd never been to before. (FH later told me he thought about doing it there but got the heebie jeebies because there were so many people there! Which I was eternally grateful for, because where he did it was so much better!)

After the sun set, we drove back into Brooklyn and recreated one of our first dates, which was dinner at an Italian restaurant and then sitting at the Promenade (which is 'our place' - we spent so much time there when we first started dating, we fell in love there).

FH had been saying wonderful things to me all day, but I had just assumed it was because it was our anniversary. It had actually been a day-long proposal, because by 10:15, he finally took the ring out of his pocket, looked at me and said 'Will ya?'

It was perfect and exactly how I had wanted it to go. I just didn't realize that's what was happening!

Re: ***My First QOTD***

ooh fun question! and congrats on ur nomination

ok, so i had an idea it would happen soon but no idea that it would happen this particular day.

we went canada for a week to meet up with our canadian buddies and the 'friends' had planned an outing to canadian wine country. we took a bike tour through all these vineyards and had appts at 4 of them to stop for tastings. so at the third one we see this huge grassy clearing so FH is like, 'ooooh, what a nice picture that would make. lets go sit and they can take a shot of us with the scenery in background.' i think nothing of it cuz he loves his camera and pics. he hands over the camera to our friends and we walk into the clearing; i sit on his lap; smile/ pose and i start walking back so we can switch with the couple so they can take a picture in this clearing as well. so i feel FH tugging on my hand so i turn around and he's on his knee. im like freaking out in my head. trying to tell myself, 'this is it, im getting ENGAGED right now!!!' so i just lose it and jump on him and start giggling. not like a cute giggle but like maniac laugh. i get down on my knees too and im hugging him. so i hear him talking and saying his prepared speech and i cant hear anything cuz im still just laughing. so then i hear will u marry me. still me giggling, no answer. 'dont you want to look at your ring?' i dont know why but that just pushed me over the edge - that was the icing on the cake, that line. i thought it was the FUNNIEST thing i'd heard in yrs. finally he stands up and i stand up too and jump up and wrap my legs around him. our friends walk over and she is crying her eyes out laughing at me. her husband is like, i take it that was a yes, ahhahahahh. i was soo overwhelmed by the whole thing. i laugh when i get nervous so this is how i dealt with it. my whole planned reaction i had where i would put my hand to my chest and answer a breathy yes went out the window when it really happened. my idol Jackie-O would be very disappointed. i wasnt lady like AT ALL.

turns out he said - my full name followed by 'i love you. in front of our canadian friends and God i want to you, 'will you marry me?'.'

i was told this. didnt hear a thing when it happened.

oh boy this was soo long! i cant TALK!

Yay, congrats on being BOTW!!!

I knew since we started getting serious exactly where FH would propose to me, on our special bench in Avalon park. In fact, I tortured him incessently that I knew where he was going to do it, and he would get all annoyed and say he was going to change it to someplace else to mess with me, but I knew he wouldn't. I knew it was coming because I knew he asked my father that week, and he asked to go to the park to 'take pictures'. He really didn't do anything over the top and frilly, though he almost had to change his plans last minute because we unexpectedly ran in to his coworker, who proceeded to go into great detail about how her cat had died that day, and this was even before my cat passed but I still get very upset hearing about sick animals, and he was so worried that I was going to get upset and he wouldn't be able to do it. But I held up, surprisingly, we went back in to the park, up to our bench, and just relaxed a bit, and he told me to get out my knife to 'fix' the bench since it had been replaced since we put our names in it, and as I was busy carving away he took the ring out of his camera case and went down on one day and just simply asked 'Will you marry me baby?'

But I laugh for two reasons...one being that he held it out at me and kind of recoiled back, like he was afraid i was going to stab him with my knife or something, and two because he hurt his back playing hockey the day before and he couldn't really get back up! I just took the ring and stared at it for a while and said yes and kept repeating it's so pretty...it's so pretty...like in a trance. He's actually pissed that I reacted 'lackluster' like that, but it's not like I didn't know it was coming, and he wanted me to start crying and screaming and jumping I guess? LOL.

I was totally surprised, and since we lived together, i was so surprised he surprised me!!!

I knew it was coming, but i didn't know when- he had taken me ring shopping, however, little did i know, he had already bought the ring and was picking it up the next day-- that really threw me off. he hired a florist and decorated our apt with balloons and flowers everywhere, and when i came home he was in a tux with our song playing...there was a chair surrounded by rose petals and he gave me three roses each with a little speech about past, present and future...

Re: ***My First QOTD***

i was very, very surprised. but i will admit that it crossed my mind for a split second.

FH told me by the end of the summer so when he did it in April, I was totally caught off guard! I knew he had asked my parents permission, but thought I had some time to wait.

FH planted the seed the weekend before by telling me that our friends had asked us if we wanted to go walk the boardwalk at Jones Beach. well, we already had plans to go out to dinner with both sets of parents but we said that maybe the following weekend would work.

fast-foward to the following weekend and we are set to meet our friends at field 6 at 7pm. Well, FH gets a phone call from his friend saying that he left his wallet at home and he had to turn around. well that kinda made me go 'hmmm?' bc why would you need ur wallet at the beach? but i just dismissed it. so then, FH says he wants to take a walk down to the water before our friends get there. he kept insisting even though i said no about a million times cuz i didn't want to mess up my new converse . also, FH hates the beach so i was totally confused. so finally, i agree to walk down to the water with him. and it was at that point that it crossed my mind...could this be it? nahhhh...

so we get down to the water and FH is all mushy (which never happens in public) and hes like look those people are staring at us. so i turned around to look and he pulled the box out of his pocket and got down on one knee!

the funny part is, i could not stop THANKING him. why??? i don't know but all I could say (besides YES!!!!!!) was thank you! haha anyways, it was perfect for us and very, very memorable.

Great question! and Congrats on BOTW!!!
