MY FMIL at her best

MY FMIL at her best

My FMIL and FFIL purchased a portable countertop dishwasher for FH and I for Xmas. A thoughtful gift yes, but it is something neither of us wanted or really think we want to use (also we are not living together). Helpful info: Before the holidays we told his mom and dad that if anyone is at a loss as to what to buy us to look at our registries. So FH did the natural thing and he told his dad today.

Well all hell broke loose and his mother is out of sorts and decides to bash our XMAS gift to her. She assumes the gift was soly my doing and hints at it being cheap and useless (candles and teatreelights from partylite). She has always had ill feeling towards me from the very beginnning because I didn't want to meet her within our 1st two months of dating (my focus was on him and I). She says she preferred the gift we gave her sister, which also was from partylite, was a sole candle in a glass holder. She also said she preferred her husbands gift which was a police oriented shirt (FH is a policeofficer). Mind you both of the gifts she preferred where less than her gift.

FH and I are paying for our entire wedding (from e-party to rehersal dinner) on our own. We even toyed with the idea of only giving his family PBA cards and a holiday card.

Also, in October I gave her a water bottle and visor which had the breast cancer ribbon and proceeds went to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. I also included a card telling her that I admired her strength and courage and wanted to let her know I would be thinking of her during October (breast cancer survior).

My apologies I needed to vent. Below is a pic of their gift:

maybe she'd prefer the gift she gave to you since she seems to like everyone's better than her own. give it back to her. some people don't know how to be gracious.

I am sorry, but I look at the pic and just laugh...It just looks funny connected to the sink...
Seriously..I hope things work out between you an FMIL....

It looks like you can use it as a dish rack. It's really tiny and it would probably take you less time to handwash and get more dishes done. Don't mean to bash the present but if you hook it up to the sink, turn it upside down, and put it on your head it looks like an old 70's hairdryer!

Nicole your response was freakin' fantastic. Thank you for the laugh. Truth be told that is my point exactly the thing maybe can hold three cups and maybe four dishes...why the hell not hand wash.

After 4 years of treating her son like gold she still does not see me as being worthy of being his wife. Meanwhile since he's been with me their relationship is now also strained and distant. Something I will always feel guilty and sad about.

First of all that lil handy dandy dish washer just made me giggle...(cmon now when we live with our FH's we wnata normal dishwasher which can fit more than 2 glasses) and also I am sorry u have to deal with this nonses I have the FSIL from hell. Ignore her and also if she is not helping with the wedding perhaps she should realize she has no say in anything and should be grateful u bought her a generous gift with all the money ur spending on ur wedding.

Sorry she's being so nasty!! I had my own issues w/ FMIL's gift (cake topper that I posted about......she bought me one, b/c she didn't like the one I already bought on my own). By your FH mentioning to use your registry for gifts, that shouldn't have made her flip out like that!!!

I agree 4 dishes is not even a days worth of food for my greedy FH. I can see why you dont see it as sufficient.
I would just save it and pack it away, then next year wrap it up and give it to someone else as a gift.
