My very close friend (a 'bridesman' in my wedding) and his wife just announced they are pregnant. I could not be more thrilled!!!!! They are just about 3 months.
My question: we are seeing them this weekend. Is it appropriate to give a gift at this point or should I hold off? I know that some people feel it is superstitious to buy gifts in advance. Any thoughts? And if I buy something, what should I get?

Maybe just a nice card right now. If she just announced it she probably isn't that far along.

I'm with you on the superstition. I usually buy cute books on being a new parent or I head to Sephora and buy body products for the new mom, since her body goes through so many changes. (Mustela has great stuff) Good Luck!!

I think you should get a gift. Either a gift cert. or a Mommy- Memory book, THOSE books where parents write notes to the child and important family history. This way she can start now!

How do you have a 'bridesman?'. I have a VERY close male friend who I didn't know how to work into our wedding. He's gay (and awesome)... I almost want to invite him to my shower, but I was afraid he would feel awkward. I'm most likely going to ask him to do a reading at the church. (he was also a fellow broadcaster with me, so he was a nice speaking voice... it's a nice fit. AND he's very religious). I'm just curious what a 'bridesman' does (sorry to steal your post for a moment... you can FM me, if you want).

I would get a gift - why not? This is a time for celebration! I would get a 'what to expect when you are expecting' book or something like that for the parents-to-be.
