Friends of ours recently got engaged on New Year's Eve. Everytime we mention any new ideas we have they steal them. Not only are they duplicating our wedding, but they booked it before ours! And we ahve been enagged since June. Do we just not tell them anything more or just take it as a compliment?!!?

Re: My friend keeps on stealing our ideas!!!!
You have given them enough. Don't tell them anymore!!!! No matter what they may do that is the same as you, your wedding will still be better because it is yours!!
1. you can learn from their mistakes by having it after theirs
2. a lot of times...it doesn't turn out the same way...
but I agree...no more sharing...just say I haven't really decided

I agree with the ladies, keep your ideas hush. This didn't exactly happen to me but I noticed that some people were just asking so that they could make a comment about it or just out of pure envy. I just don't understand why would someone want to copy? Can't they come up with any ideas. My friend does this too with some things but she is getting married a year and 1/2 before me and we are having totally different people at our wedding so I am not sweating it but it does bother me so I just don't say anything anymore, but knowing her, she will tell our friends that I was the one copying her and that's what really ticks me off!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

HI, you are fairly new but I have a theory on these situations and it is called the CRAZY GENE. This gene seems to be triggered of in close friends and family once they hear that you are getting married. Lord knows if it spawns from jealousy or resentment but people get weird. People start getting engaged and planning a wedding that is strikingly similar to yours(like what is going on your case). They even start making dates close to yours, in an effort to steal your thunder so to speak.
Needless to say I agree that you defintely need not share your plans with this individual. Good Luck, and Welcome!

Re: My friend keeps on stealing our ideas!!!!
OMG! I am going through the same thing. I have been engaged for a year and a half now and my BF wasn't engaged until a few months ago. So I was telling her EVERYTHING and showing here pictures. She decided to get married a month before us and stealing all our ideas (even using the same reception hall) Here and her mother keep asking me who I'm using and where I got this or that. It's hard but I just don't tell her anything anymore.

Being the slightly spiteful person I am, I'd tell them something totally rediculous to do and laugh my tush off at their wedding.
