My friends iPhone review....interesting!
Ok this might be a bit techie for people or a bit geeky but before you buy your new iPhone or like many others deciding if they should return their new iPhone read this..
(this has nothing to do with the activation problems and 15 hour wait to activate)
1. There is no screen alignment function, get used to typing just a bit to the left.. (Unless your blind in your right eye like the majority of America is, at that point its perfect!)
2. Just like the iPod there is NO changeable battery, hmm.. so after the 300 charge battery life apple suggests the battery will last, you will have to send your iPhone to apple for a replacement battery.
(the battery life is said to last 1-2 days max with normal use, so if you use this as your phone and your ipod all day while browsing the internet that is considered HEAVY use and the battery may last less than a day? so the internal battery life is expected to last about 8 months?! then while your iPhone is out for 2 weeks to change the battery what phone will you use? hmm..)
3. Ok so you just bought your 8GB iPhone and you want to hold some of your school or work documents on it while traveling back and forth to work or school.. sounds great it does have 8 gigs of storage, WRONG you cannot use the storage like an external hard drive like with your iPod, apple seems to think no one would ever do this so.. don’t let them!
4. As most people in 2007 I like to use an IM program on my phone while I’m on the road, maybe AIM or Yahoo or whatever.. But no IM in the iPhone.. Hmm..
5. If you are thinking you can use your new iPhone to replace your corporate Blackberry, think again. The iPhone won't push e-mail onto your screen the way the Blackberry does. Instead, it checks for mail after set periods. Also, it won't work with corporate Exchange e-mail systems. In addition it won’t wirelessly sync your contacts or calendar.
(Like many other company have come to realize it is a great feature and is cheap to integrate 'blackberry connect' into their devices, I use it and it works great)
6. Ringtones! We all love em! ..Don’t we? Apple doesn’t think so.. If you are hoping to download your signature ringtone into your new iPhone, hope again. Only 25 ringtones preloaded by Apple are available for use at this time
7. The web Browser, if you love those lively Web features like Java, Flash and RSS feeds, forget about them for now. They won't work on the iPhone browser. And if you hope to make a phone call while on the Web, forget about it if you aren't using a Wi-Fi connection.
8. Its data compatibility is GPRS (general packet radio service) not the latest system out UMTS (universal mobile telecommunications system) which is 4x faster than GPRS (hence the complaints 'the internet is so slow')
GPRS: 400kb/s
UMTS: 1.6Mb/s (3g technology)
I worked as a level 2 tech for Motorola and Nokia for almost 10 years, for the last 7 years I have been a Computer consultant. You might feel differently but for right now, as sold, the iPhone is not only a waste of money, but an insult to the intelligence of any educated consumer.
if you still want the iPhone like many of you do, you might want to use the suggestion of the Baltimore sun 'If you are undaunted by all of this, consider, at least, waiting until a good friend buys one. Borrow it and play around for a few hours. You may learn, again, that all that glitters is not gold.'
