My gown comes with a bustle!

My gown comes with a bustle!

I've been wondering what I should do about a bustle ever since I ordered my gown. I didn't want the poofy kind--it's OK on other people, I'm just too big for a poofy skirt. And my gown has beading on the farthest point of the train that I don't want to lose. I know that the bridal salon only gave me a truly excellent price on my gown so they could hit me up for alterations and the bustle. Since the gown fit really well, I'm hoping to get away with really minor alterations--no hem needed as we did a hollow to hem, for one thing--but I was worried about the bustle.

Then I found out last night from the maker--my gown comes with a bustle. An underbustle designed to work with the box pleats on my skirt and show off the lovely beading on the hem. Yay! I might be able to pick up my dress with no alterations! I'm gong to ask my mom, an excellent seamstress, if she'd reinforce the ties or buttons or whatever the bustle uses for me (she was going to try to do the bustle herself, but now she doesn't have to.) I have a bad habit of breaking things. --so happy!

And I'll be interested to see if the salon brings up the existence of the bustle when I go in for the first fitting. Because no one mentioned it to me when I was shopping for a gown, not in two bridal salons.

That's great news! Who makes your gown?

Forgot to mention that part! It's a Casablanca. I get the feeling all their gowns come with bustles. What a good idea, though. Why force all brides to spend time and money having bustles put in their gowns, when they know full well nearly all of them with trains are going to do it! They should come with bustles already in there. And if you want a different style, well, then you can pay for it.

That's a good question to ask - my gown is Casablanca also, and I'm all kinds of troubled about the bustle (I have some time...).

Can't wait to see pics from your fitting!

yes, you do have some time. Which one did you get? Mine is 1843, Fall '06. I'm at work so I don't have a pic.

That's great! I'm actually doing a French Bustle as to not hide all the work on the back of the dress.
