It's higher than the normal rate and way higher than the AAA rate! Is this the norm? I'm definitely calling them!

Re: My hotel block rate???
I called a few places yesterday and one lady even said this is going to be higher than rates you can find out there, but thats because you don't have to book them all on the spot and pay for them in advance. She also said this will allow for refunds or changes in case something happens, where many of the lowest rates are non-refundable. It could also be a bunch or bs so who knows lolz!!

Yes its normal, because rates will go up as it gets closer to your date and your guests will still have that rate. Very few guests will book this far ahead.
When I booked my rate was $149, the going rate was $130 at the time. In the months leading up to my wedding the rates skyrocketed to over $190. My guests still got the $149.

You are right.... I just checked the AAA rate for Saturday Dec 12, 2009 and it's higher than my group rate... so they do go up as you get closer.. I never knew hotel rates for the same day could change so much over time.
Thanks.

Re: My hotel block rate???
Our block rate was $129. Online you could book at $149, so I thought this was a good deal. Expedia was running a promotion about 6 weeks before the wedding for $119, and several friends were lucky enough to get that -- I called the hotel to complain and she gave us a night in our suite free to try to 'make up' for it. Which was nice. When the price went back up, the rest of our group still got the $129 rate. I was extremely pleased with the hotel and happy with our choice (we booked at the Melville Marriott). The friends who booked our hotel through expedia were still put on the list as guests for our wedding group so they got welcome bags and all, so it was no big deal.

I had two friends book at the cheaper AAA rate when my rooms were first blocked and I was able to add them to my room block list. They got the OOT bag and everything. At the Hyatt Windwatch by the way.
