My little momma's boy!

My little momma's boy!

It's like he turned 1 and became my little momma's boy!

He has been EXTREMELY clingy to me, wont let me put him down. When Im in the kitchen cooking or cleaning, he hangs out holding on to my legs or hugging my knees.

Sometimes it's a little overwhelming, cant get a breather I even go potty with him holding on to my knees! and as I try to detach him from me, he falls because he tries to fight it, then he REALLY makes it into a tantrum. and wont stop until I pick him up again or hold his hand...

I am in total shock lately because he's usually a very 'happy with anyone' baby, but lately is he spots me a mile away he starts screaming, and will cling to me for dear life if anyone tries to take him away...

I heard this is a normal phase at this age.
He's so precious and I adore him to pieces...
I dont mind holding him, talking to him, singing to him, smooching him up, but I need little breathers to even make a phone call or brush my teeth, and even that seems impossible lately...

Its not ALL DAY, we had a playgroup today and he was fine playing with the kids, but towards the end he was clingy and fussy again and I had to hold him till we left...

What did you mommies do at this stage ?

I cant imagine 6months from now with a newborn in the house!

Awww. Anna. From what Ive heard the phase is because they are becoming more independent and its scary! From everything Ive read you reassure them that you are there and hold them when they want and let them go when they are distracted. Yes, its just a phase. Emma went through it for a couple weeks. Hes 1 now when he is 18 months and you have your new baby he will probably do the same again just make sure you let him know hes the big boy!!

Good luck hun!

I am sure it is just a stage that a lot of children go through. But I am sure it is not easy to get anything done either. Are there any articles on this subject in your baby books?

Anna, I think it's normal for JA to be going through this, but I feel for you.

Aw how cute. My mom always tells me that I went through this. Attached to her hip. She says she did everything with one hand!

Same with me, I wouldn't let my Mother go........

It is totally normal. I think you are lucky it did not start until now since this stage starts around 9 months (average). Hopefully it means he will go through this for a shorter time too . He is really becoming his own person and just needs some assurance from you. Sometimes you may need to let him cry for a minute so you can brush his teeth. I became an expert doing this, but my DH said it is a bad idea to cater to her. Now I let her play with the vanity drawer while I brush.

Aw! They understand so much now and Victoria's reply about the assurance sounds right on the money. OMG I'm going through the opposite. I swear, Luke threw an 'Im not getting what I want so let me produce some tears' tantrum on the night of his bday. Then he stopped and as soon as he saw my Mom, he started them again. Then he was happy when he thought she was going to let him on the stairs and when she wouldn't - more tantrum-y behavior. Oh brother!!

I still cant believe little JA's going to be a big brother!

Anna he is also more attached to you because you are preggo. He somehow knows he's going to have to share you soon.

Stacey LOL Sometimes I think he's already starting the 'poke the baby in the head' thing. When he jumps on my legs (standing on my lap) to play, and he falls into my belly or 'hits' my belly. I say 'are you already playing big brother?' He's saying 'she's MY MOMMY! '

Victoria, I definately AM SOO HAPPY that it didnt start earlier!

My sisters 1st and 3rd kids were VERY ATTACHED TO HER THEIR ENTIRE first 18m of life! To the point that they didnt want to even look at anyone else! My nephew is 16m old, so he's still EXTREMELY CLINGY and will cry a long neverending cry if she's not around... Yikes for whoever is babysitting him! She was 'home' for them, and worked for the first year or 2 of her 1st child's life, so that may be a factor. But Im home with JA and he's never been clingy or anti-anyone-else So this is new to me. I kinda like the 'happy with everyone' lovable baby. Im sure he'll be back. He's still great with me leaving him, thank goodness.

Liz-LOL-the tantrum. YEP. I see it all the time! and the alligator tears!
They master the art of the tantrum in NO TIME! and can wrap themselves around everyone's cute little fingers!

I know i'm not a parent but maybe it's a phase JA is going through. It just goes to show that men no matter what age depend on women...LOL! what would they do without us...LOL

It sounds like a lot of moms go through this so don't worry he'll be ok...like you said Massimo is 16m and cries for hours when his mom is not around (that's my darling godson...LOL)...When JA is older and going to school and it's not cool for mommy to kiss you goodbye in front of your friends then you can remind him that when he was 12m he was so clingy to your leg that you couldnt even go brush your teeth...LOL LOL

Anna, I think JA is going through something called 'separation anxiety' it will pass...my goddaughter went through it and it is rough on the Mom, but I hate to admit it, I can't wait until Mia clings to me!!!! YIKES

I am just reading this now and I can just see him. Think about how parents can be with children, so think about how he feels all the new stuff etc etc, they get that way I have been told. I love to read when you write. You make me look forward to motherhood

Re: My little momma's boy!

You better beleive Im gonna remind him when he doesnt want me to kiss him in front of his friends.. thats when im gonna WISH he'd cling to my leg
JennRenee says they have to worry more about the moms than the kids on the first day of kindergarten.. the moms are the boohoo basketcases! hahhh.
Camille, LOL, you cant wait. Oh you'll be saying you cant wait till she naps
Shamma, thank you *blush * I cant wait till you become a mommy too!
