My makeup and review of DanielleRenee
First, I loved the makeup, wasn't crazy about the eyebrows, and would probably change the lipstick.
The Good: She used colors that I thought looked great on me, matched the foundation, and did airbrushing. She was really sweet on the phone, very nice in person and easy to talk to.
The Bad: First I'll say what my fiance noticed. (which I take to heart because he rarely comments on anything) He picked me up at the salon so witnessed the last 5 minutes. Danielle was saying how perfect the makeup was and listed all the colors we used on an index card. These are the words she used that he didn't like 'there you go, on you wedding day, with this list, it will be Bam, we're done!'
He told me that he felt that she would be almost too secure with her choices and wouldn't I want someone who would completely re-do the makeup and start from the beginning. In other words, it seemed he didnt' think she was open to criticism?
This was his main thing, his only other comment was that he felt she overdramatized how perfect it looked which also added to his conculsion of not being open.
Editied to clarify: On the wedding day, if I wanted to play around with the makeup and change a few things, I would feel completely comfortable.
Second, what brushed me the wrong way: at the end, she handed me the contract and told me I had--10!-- days to get it back to her to hold my date.
Maybe I am overlysensitive, but with a wedding 10 months away, I don't like it when someone tells me I have less than 2 weeks to make a decision. Every other makeup artist I spoke to said, after you have your trial, I will hold the date and let you know if someone else is interested if I don't hear from you.
I think this a very reasonable and common practice. 10 days would not even give me enough time to compare the trial to someone else.
I then recieved a reminder email that the contract was coming due. Ok, this is a makeup service, not a product that needs to be sold right away. JMO.
My conclusion:
Aside from the negatives, I was very pleased with her talent and the makeup. I think it was the whole contract back in 10 days thing that killed it. She is a nice person and while I hate giving bad reviews, I try to be honest and that's what everyone needs.
