My mom

My mom

I am getting married in two weeks and my mom fractured her ankle today. She has a soft cast on. I am really down, considering my dad is deceased and she was supposed to wak me down the aisle. It looks like I will walk alone and now have no dance with her either. I hope I am not being selfish.

Not being selfish, your dissapointment is okay! Hope she gets better soon, and maybe she'll be able to still walk with you down the aisle in some way using crutches or a wheelchair or something. She may feel a bit better in two weeks.

Hope your mom feels better. You are not being selfish, it's your special day, and as long as your mom is there-that's all that matters.

Re: My mom

Thanks girls. I was thinking of hopefully having her walk me down with a cane. Right now she is on crutches

Re: My mom

It's understandable to be upset. 2 weeks should give her time to not be in pain and for the short distance, I would think she could just use a cane for that and you could even decorate the cane...maybe get an extra corsage and attach it somehow to jazz it up some?

I hope she feels better soon!!!

Re: My mom

If it's not broken and just a fracture then she has a boot on. When I fractured my foot I had a boot. If she lays off it for the two weeks then she can walk you down the isle with it. She can also slow dance with you to a song. Those two things will not hurt her foot. But she needs to wrap it well and keep it in the boot.

Don't be sad, there are ways around this. I'm sure she would love to walk you down with a cane and the dance can be modified! It will be okay!

I'm sorry! She should have a pretty strong cast or boot for it- I'm sure by 2 weeks from now she would be able to walk you down the aisle. It's not that far and she could use a cane if she had to. I'm sure she feels terrible, too- I bet she'd do anything to walk you down the aisle.

Re: My mom

Awe, Im sorry. But I thinkl she might be able to walk in two weeks since its a fracture. I fractured and walked on it for like 1 month.. but than I relaized the pain wasnt going away. It was swollen and bruised for two weeks. Well wehn I finally went to the doctors in July, he said I fractured and tore the ligaments. He put the soft cast and a boot. I had it on for 2 weeks and now its off. I am able to walk on it, so she might be ok since she put the soft cast on ASAP. So there is still hope, be positive and pray!!! Good luck!!

Aww sweetie, that stinks! But be optimistic. I bet if she rests she will feel better. I am sure she wants to be there for you as much as you want her there, so like one of the other girls said, decorate a cane and she will be good to go!! BIG HUGS to you!!!

Re: My mom

If she only has a soft cast on shouldnt she be able to walk for that little bit? Im sure she would want to try. I wouldnt give up on her yet. 2 weeks can be a long time to heal.

The morning of my brother's wedding, my mom woke up with gout in her toes (she gets in when she drinks too much alcohol and the rehearsal dinenr was the night before). She hobbled her way through it in some comfy shoes!

Re: My mom

You are NOT being selfish...

I say that no matter WHAT it takes... even if you have to push her in a wheelchair... you can walk down the aisle with your mom!!!

OR at least meet her half way!!!

Just don't let a SILLY think like a fractured ankle get in the way of SUCH a special moment like her walking her daughter down the aisle! This is her one chance to do it! Wrap that bad boy up and think of any way possible for her to walk or roll down the aisle - at least part of the way - so you guys have that moment together.

As for the dance - pick a short song or shorten a song that may be a bit longer and just get your moment on the dance floor. DON'T SACRIFICE ANYTHING for this unfortunate incident. You don't want to regret not doing anything for the rest of your life for something that will heal! We don't want your mom to be in pain, of course, but there are ways around it - and I'm sure your mom will appreciate any efforts to make sure these special moments happen!!!

Good luck!!
