First, a few weeks ago, I said I was going to probably have a hair and makeup person come to the house b/c I'll be getting ready at her house the day of wedding. She was like 'I don't want them coming into the house' so I might hafta find somewhere else to go to get that stuff ready.
Now I said I think I'm switching my ceremony time to 3, and she was like that I should change it to 4 or 5 so other people who work can go, and so there's less time in between that and cocktail hour that starts at 7:30. I was like um, it's going to be really dark out then, and we won't be able to do outside pictures. Then she was like 'well your sister had it rain on her day, so she couldn't do it outside anyway.' So I still can't have the option of doing it outside? It COULD be nice. She's just like 'well not many people will go to your ceremony then b/c it'll be working, and in the summer on Fridays, weddings start at 5'. It stays light till 8 in the summer! Oh and that my cocktail hour should start earlier, like 6:30. All I ever get is frustrated with my mother when I have to talk about this wedding stuff. All she does is create doubts. Now I have to worry that 3 and a half hours in between ceremony and cocktail hour is too long. It is just so depressing.

Re: My Mom is Pissing Me Off!
You can get ready at my house if you want. As far as where to get your hair done, I think if you go somewhere it tends to come out nicer because they have EVERYTHING they need, incase the run out of hairspray or decide to try something a little different. Plus you get that little extra 'I'm a bride' feeling walking around, especially if there are other people there.
As far as the time goes, if someone was going to come, I don't think the 1/2 hour or 1 hour would make that much of a difference. If you wanted to take outside pics, have you thought of seeing your FH before the ceremony? You can get your pics done from 2-4 when you know it would be light, then have the ceremony a little later.
I met with Bart Stevens, he said, you have your dad one one side, (my mom on the other- in a jewish ceremony) your bo-k in front, your veil/blusher as you try to walk down the aisle, you are looking at all the people, then uncle lester sticks his camera into the ailse to take a pic just as you are about to see your FH. Then by time you finally make it to the alter, you have seen glimpes of him and don't ever get a good first look. If you take your pics before, then can set you up to see your faces as you see each other for the first time.

A word of advice that I received from many, many people...if your mother is being negative DON'T TELL HER ANYTHING! Because if she's like most mothers (i.e. MINE!), she's not going to stop making stupid comments and you'll only get frustrated. I'm sorry she isn't being more considerate, some people just don't realize how thoughtless and difficult they are.
IMO, keep your ceremony and reception times as they are, because even if it was a saturday afternoon, some (most) people aren't going to come to your ceremony. My girlfriends and I went to a wedding last Saturday and everyone's FH, DH or boyfriend missed the ceremony - on purpose! It's just the way it goes. And since you have just as much of a chance of having a bright, sunny day as you do rain, you should try and get the outdoor pictures you really want!
Good luck!

Re: My Mom is Pissing Me Off!
I really don't want to do pictures before the ceremony because I really just prefer to see him for the first time that day during the ceremony.
Since I'm not outside during sunset b/c of work, I'm going to see on Saturday what time it gets dark at, and I'll decide then. I'm just so frustrated. And I tried to see if I could move the reception to 7, so it wouldn't be so bad, but there's already something booked then which I pretty much expected. Oh well.

I know, it is really frustrating. Do you ever make a decision, and then have doubts, but then you think it should be okay. And your mother voices the doubts and makes you even crazier?
