background story: i was friends with this guy in grammar school. he became friends with my brother & all these years later my brother is one of his groomsmen in July. & small world the guy is marrying someone i know from high school.
at last minute my mom decided to add the family to the guest list. its the guy & his FW, his parents & his sister. his sister is 20 years old. we did not invite her with a + 1 & it turns out she is 'highly insulted' that her boyfriend was not invited. i know the girl but i had no idea she was even dating anyone.
the big issue is that we didn't even invite FHs groomsmen with guests. none of them are dating anyone & we told them that closer to the wedding we will let them know if they can bring someone.
so my mom told this girls mom that the groomsmen where not invited with dates & that she would have to speak with me about it.
where we wrong in not inviting her a +1???
TIA

Normally, I'd say anyone over 18 *should* be invited with a guest. But if you're not even inviting BP members with guests, then no. You're not wrong. Your BP members come first.

we are still trying to keep our minimum (WITHOUT going OVERBOARD!)

No you were not wrong for not inviting him; you didn't know she has a boyfriend and if your groomsmen aren't having the option of a + one why should this girl. I really wish people would understand how much weddings cost.

I am not inviting anyone with a +1 that isn't in a relationship. I am not going to pay for a bunch of people I don't know to come. We are paying for the wedding ourselves. She shouldn't be insulted and she is 20 and will be there with her family, but if it will be a problem, than invite her boyfriend.

that's how i feel too. we are having a small wedding (guaranteed 110 people) & FH & I would like to extend the +1 to the guys first.
