I know we have all said it before BUT ... she has 42 FRIENDS on her list (20 of which can be cut without second thought) and then she has the nerve to tell me my friends list was too high. After they told me they I must invite people 'and guest.' Yes, my list is 66 people, but tahts about 30 friends ... LESS THAN HERS.
She kills me -- afterall, its our wedding and I have lived all over the country in the past three years. I cant just ignore those people that I loved and laughed with.

That was the hardest part of planning. I wish I had a magic answer for you, but I don't. We basically sat down with each set of parents and explained our vision of OUR wedding and then pleaded our case about the different lists. It was difficult, but eventually we came to a compromise. There would be noone there that would say 'I haven't seen you since you were...' or that we had never met.

I'm with you - only it's my FMIL. They have 20 something 'important' friends they need to invite - I've never met any of them in 6 years with FH. How important can they be if I've never seen them even ONCE at a b-day party or a family event???
Luckily, we are paying so we were able to get out of inviting some of them by saying we couldn't afford it and didn't have the room.

thats what stinks! my dad gave me the silent treatment for a month until i agreed that they could pay. they manipulated me! i hate this wedding. its supposed to be happy and fun and I just cant wait for it to be over so that i can run away with my HUSBAND and never look back.

If my mom was paying for my wedding and she wanted to invite a bunch of friends... its not like I could say much... whether its my wedding or not. I would think its rude. But hey thats just my opinion.

this is something i think every person planning a wedding goes through. persoanlly, i chickened out of the situation...we invited everyone we could think of....and we lucked out that it just happened to be the number we were estimating. we originally thought we would have 150 people at the wedding, but wound up with 171....including us, so we got lucky. my parents gave us money for the reception, so it was difficult to say no to them about anything. suck it up, try to compromise.... and keep in mind that parent's friends generally give pretty generous gifts....so that might help

true, but then i could have paid for it myself and had a much SMALLER wedding for a quarter of the price. a small wedding is all i wanted...now its just big and i wont know anyone there

I understand... but cut your mom some slack. She is your biological mother after all. Weddings aren't cheap. If it was an in-law... it might be different.

Mrsbrad I know exactly where you are coming from. My mother is the same way. She wants me to cut my list but my father keeps adding to it! Just think that it is your wedding do what will make you and FH happy.
