My mother's dress vs FMIL's dress...

Original post by Cpt2007

My mom got her dress a few weeks ago and is really in love with it. It's the right color for her, it's understated just like she is and it looks fantastic on her.

So, then my FMIL went out yesterday after I told her my mom found her dress at Nordstrom and told her she got it in champagne and blue (I actually showed her a picture of the dress) but wasn't sure which one she'd keep yet, and bought a dress. She is also in love with it...loves the color, loves the beading etc.

While I think the colors are fine and complimentary, I am worried about a few things:

First, are the dresses competing against each other? Is the beading just too loud on FMIL's? Is it a problem that they are the same kind of fabric and that the skirts are nearly identical?

First dress is my mother's, second one is FMIL's.

HELP!

Both are lovely dresses! I would not worry I'm sure they both will look stunning.

Its fine I think. Like someone pointed out, one is sleeveless and that totally sets them apart. Let them be comfortable. They dont have to coordinate with anything in the wedding.

they don't look anything alike, IMO, and if FMIL wants to be 'showy' let her! your mom will look outstanding no matter what!

i think they are fine--because both women will look great in them. i was slightly worried about this for my mom and MIL. my mom's dress was simple and a kind of taupe/champagne off the shoulder kind of portrait neckline. then we found MIL's dress (at the last minute of course) and her's was a strapless gown with a wrap and asymetrical design and in a deep burgundy. for a moment i worried that my mom might get overshadowed by MIL's dress. but in the end, both women looked great and received tons of compliments! (::cough cough:: my mom received more ::cough::) LOL

1. They look fine together.

2. Your mom's and FMIL's dresses do NOT have to 'go together' -- Let them wear what they want, whether or not they coordinate.

I'm actually worried about FMIL's dress upstaging my mothers.

They go together very nicely! I like both of them. You are over thinking it! No one will be looking at them, just you

I think the dresses are beautiful and do not clash with each other! The Moms are going to look gorgeous!

Will your FMIL wear a jacket to cover her arms or will it be sleeveless?

She's looking for a jacket or a shawl to wear over it to cover her arms. But since it's all beading I'm not sure how a jacket would look.

I think that they are fine together. You have to rememeber everyone has different tastes. I think go together. If it was orange and purple I'd worry Don't stress. It will be perfect. What color are your girls in?

My girls will be in navy blue satin, with no beading.

In no way do I think that your FMIL's dress will overshadow your mom's dress! No worries there!

They're both FINE & look good together.

Have I mentioned my FMIL is wearing white? You should have NO worries.

I think they'll be fine together too...they are both neutral colors that compliment each other. And even if one is more glitzy then the other...it's just a reflection of their individual taste...

don't worry it'll be fine. People will be looking at you. :)
