I have one room in the house that is all for me. My husband recently re-did it for me.
He painted the walls a gorgeous chocolate brown with reddish undertones called saddlery. He did my trim in a creamy off white color.
He built me book shelves so that the entire window wall is floor to ceiling shelves - except for the windows and under the windows. He backed the shelves with off white beadboard and painted the shelves the same off white as my trim. He pulled them together with a piece of fancy moulding across the top.
He built me a custom entertainment center to house my television and dvr and cd player. He painted it that same creamy off white color with brushed nickle accents that match the brushed nickle on the ceiling fan/light fixture.
He bought me a new brushed nickle switchplate and a new off white desk with a hutch.
He bought me a butter soft leather rocking recliner in a deep wine red color.
I loved this room.
And then.. the day before yesterday.. he put in a brand new elliptical.
We have a work out room already. That is his area. With a weight bench and weights and measuring tapes and scales ... but the elliptical is in my nice relaxing little library/office.
Do you think he is trying to tell me something?

Re: My Office
Wow--first I WISH I had a room. I don't even have room for my clothes
Is this his subtle way of trying to take the room back?

Re: My Office
It's a subtle way of telling me my azz is too fat.
The not subtle way was this morning at 5:30:
'Hey babe... babe? Jeannie? I think I hear your new elliptical calling you.. if you get up now you can squeeze out a half hour before you need to shower and get the boys up!'

We lived in a 2 bedroom apartment for 5 years - scrimping and saving before we were able to buy our tiny little house!

Not nice.
Say thank you and use it as a rack--who needs a coat closet when you have a brand new elliptical.

I will do my best when I get home.
Warning: The pics will be marred by the giant beast of an elliptical by the window.

Re: My Office
um since i am not married yet
are husbands ALLOWED to do that?
bc i may rethink this whole marriage thing
but then again, if husbands build beautiful rooms - i MAY not be entirely turned off by it!!

Re: My Office
it could also be his way of being supportive, since he may know you are not always entirely happy with your weight.
the bomb does this to me occasionally. I try to think the best of it.
boys like to help 'fix' problems for us.
I would LOVE said room, WITH said elliptical.
sounds fabulous.
and no matter what, I always remember the story you recounted of Rob with those waitresses. I just don't think the same guy is pushing you out of bed for himself...rather than for you.

Re: My Office
That room sounds dreamy. You paint a pretty picture.
Maybe your hubs just wants you to be the healthiest you can be. This way you will be around to boss him as long as possible.

Re: My Office
Here are some pics of the office my hubby built. I know the room looks like a bomb went off in it.. but I am super tired... baking apple crisp and did a project with my 6 year old. Not to mention working all day and cooking dinner and doing laundry and dishes...
Anyway - here are some pics. Please also forgive the fact that I haven't had the chance to actually decorate and accessorize yet. And we haven't sorted out all the books to get them up on the shelves yet. It's still very much a work in progress.
This is while it was in process.. note the treadmill front in the foreground. I got him to get that out of my room .. and then he replaced it with the elliptical:
Almost complete right side:
Almost complete left side:
Occupied Chair:
My desk... I am aware it is a disaster:
The chair:
The tv cabinet with the boat I built with Robbie for his project:
