I come in to work this morning to find my new officemate looking at naked women on his computer!!! He got all startled when I walked into the office and threw his hands up over his screen but it was too late - I saw what he was looking at. I am SICK to my stomach right now - this guy is so creepy-looking. He's an old nerd and now all I can think about is him checking ME out. If he wants to be a perv in the privacy of his own home that's one thing. But to do it at work is totally unprofessional, especially when he shares an office with a female.

That is a form of sexual harassement and you can go to your HR person and complain!! We can get fired for looking at stuff like there. Its against our rules!

I agree with the suggestion to go to HR. That is definitely a hostile work environment if it is allowed to continue -- I would feel so uncomfortable sharing an office with that guy. How creepy. What an idiot to do that at work!!!

Ick thats disgusting, The president of my old job used to look at porn and people would see it... then he wised up and turned his computer so no one could see.

I am seriously thinking about that. The guy is nice and everything and I'd hate to get him in trouble, but he needs to use some common sense!!!

you definitely should say something to HR - the only thing is that if you're the only person who saw it then he'll know it was you who told...unless they say something about tracking his computer activity....just make sure that if you do say something that it doesn't come back to bite ya!

Are you comfortable enough to talk to him directly about this? If you don't want to go through HR you can put him on notice about the situation.
You said he's a nice guy and since he covered the monitor he was obviously embarrassed maybe he would respect your wishes. If it happens again, then you could go to HR.

I'd say tell him directly that you're not comfortable with what you saw, and you don't ever want to see it again. If you're not comfortable doing that, go to HR, immediately.

He SEEMS like a nice guy, but who knows? I've only just met him a couple of weeks ago. I went and talked to my manager, told him that I don't want to get the guy in trouble, but I'm very uncomfortable now and don't want to be in the same office with him anymore. He said not to worry; he'll take care of it. Whew! I feel better now.

That sort of stuff is not for the office. It is absolutely inappropriate and it is considered a form of sexual harrasment, especially since it made you feel so uncomfortable. You should speak to your HR department or at the very least your boss. The guy may be a nice guy, but if it made you feel in any way awkward and embarassed it should be reported. Best of luck.

You can absolutely put in a compalint against him....when I worked in HR we fired someone for the same exact thing.
