My opinion on flowers. PLEASE fill me in if I am missing something...

Okay, I am just going to book the cheapest florist (barring companies that have a rep for not showing up, or if someone is nasty to me).

A rose is a rose is a rose, right??? So, why should I pay a premium price for someone who promises a better rose. What's the difference? No matter who I use, a petal will fall off, a rose will wilt, etc. So, why pay more?

that was my attitude as well. I booked Burton's on the spot because they were inexpensive and I had seen their work before, so I have no worries.

This was kinda my opinion as well. I did not want to spend like 3-4K on flowers. (they say 10-15% of your budget. I am definitely under that)
Try Flowers by Matthew, Burtons and Jack and Rose
Jack does spray this chemical on the flowers that holds the moisture in so it does not dry out before your pictures are taken. That was worth it to me for a july wedding.
Also look at their creativity. But trust me I agree about not spending huge amounts of money on the florist.

I have to disagree with Suven. I have seen some BAAAAAD flowers, and don't forget, they are in all of your pics!

I think quality in a florist is important. You are spending lots of $$ on your dress, hair, makeup, do you want to have wilting flowers?

Well, not really. You have to be careful because there are florists that will use day old flowers, which have the same effect as day old bread (it's ok, but it's just not that good). Also, just getting any florist with no reputation for doing weddings, could spell trouble come delivery time. And, a rose is a rose, but a rose is ugly when it's brown and wilted...and I've been to friends weddings where the flowers were DOA.

I didn't think I should spend 5K on flowers, so I spent half that. But, at the same time booked a florist I knew wouldn't send me dead flowers, and had a great rep. My flowers wound up one of the best things about our wedding.

Just be careful with who you book...there is nothing wrong with spending less!

I have to disagree also. I don't think anyone should spend more than what they want to or can afford...but I think creativity and talent set some florists apart from others and being that flowers will be in a majority of wedding day pics, I feel some thought should be put into it. JMO though.

If you want a standard bo-k, no-frills or want to just pick from a book - that's your choice. But you can find a florist that will work with whatever budget you have while giving you something unique and creative - again, if that's what you're looking for.

Exactly! We didn’t' spend anywhere near 3-4k on flowers, but the florist we found was very talented and accommodating. She worked within the price range that we could afford and created absolutely beautiful and unique arrangements that were exactly what I wanted! It 's all about creativity, I think. Anyone can make a beautiful arrangement with 6 dozen best quality exotic colored roses in a centerpiece and charge you an insane price for it, but not every florist can create a centerpiece of your dream on a budget. It’s all about working with each client individually and finding a solution that fits within the price that the client can pay.

THis gets to the heart of the entire question - sure a lot of florists can provide very pretty arrangements with fresh flowers - but i think a lot of times - the high prices come from the 'creativity and talent' and the amount of flowers used. It all depends on what you like. I love flowers and will spend 15% of my budget on my flowers - it basically comes down to - whatever floats your boat!

I agree with those who disagree! That's like saying a picture is a picture, why not have Aunt Minnie take the photos?
There is certainly talent and creativity involved. At the same time, I understand you not wanting to spend alot of $ on something that's just going to die any way. But a talented and creative florist should be able to work within your budget and still give you nice flowers.

Good luck!

IMO It is important to have nice flowers for pic's etc. But some of these Floral Coordinators will charge astronomical prices. I think that while it is important to have nice centerpeices that it is outrageous to spend 100's of dollars on something most people will forget about. Think back to weddings you have been to n the past. Can you remember the floral arrangements or the Boo-k's? Most times people do not remember unless it is something outrageous.

Fair, moderately priced and elegant is the way I am going. I do not think it is necessary to spend 1000's. Put it to the HM. You will remember that longer :)

This made me lol! It is true, not all florists are the same quality and have the same standards.

I think this really depends on what expectations you have from your wedding. In my opinion, the flowers do give a lasting impression on people - and people will remember them (regardless of their quality)- they stare at them the whole time that they are eating - its kinda hard not to - they are right in front of you and on EVERY table!
