My Poor sister... Breast cancer scare!!!

My sister has been having trouble getting pregnant,. She is now on hormones from her endicrinolist reproductive specialist. Her reg OB/Gyn told her to get a base line mamogram. ( She is 37 yrs. old) She went and they told her her breast tissue is dense and to get a sonogram, She went today, and told her she has cysts all over her breasts from the hormones and there are no tumors, but maybe she should get an MRI. Why would they tell her this if they told her there are no tumors and they are cysts, she asked if she should go to a breast doctor and they said no they will go right to biopsy the cysts. She is so confused as of what to do. I feel so bad for her. It Makes no sense to me becuase they said they were all cysts , and there are no tumors... her insurnace is very good and I thought maybe they were milking the insurance, or maybe to cover there tushes becuase people are lawsuit happy. I am upset, breast cancer does not run in the family, and am afriad she is going to have this done while I am on my honeymoon and I will not be able to relax , and be worried sick. What would u do? Would you get an MRI if they told you there were no tumors?

to your sister and your family! My mom had a breast tumor and I asked her about it just now. For my mom they skipped the MRI and removed it right away becuase they knew (or were pretty sure)it was a tumor. So I guess that the MRI is a good thing? Think of it this way - it is better to be safe than sorry.

I would definitely ask why they're requesting the MRI. I had a benign tumor removed after a sonogram and mammogram. Now they found 3 more tumors, so they want to follow up with a specialist. But I've never had an MRI for it.

Re: My Poor sister... Breast cancer scare!!!

She was told by the radiologist that there is a 1 percent chance there is something there and they cannot see it becuase of the cysts. She thinks she is going to go to a breast specialist and get a second opinion- her body is being churned up and producing these cysts from the pregnanacy hormones. I think the regular OB/GYN who sent her is a moron for telling her to get one right now becuase these medications cause cysts. She is definately going to find a new Ob/Gyn, and also she is definatley going to talk to her reproductive endicrinologist. The radiologist aslo told her that her breast look asymetrical becuase of the cysts. She said she had an MRI of her breast so she suggests it for her. (!!!!)
