My mom was in church this morning and the priest who is going to marry us just comes out and says 'I'm comming to this wedding you can seat me with XXX'
It so happens that the preist is very friendly with my fathers cousins and just recently found out that we are related. So he wants to come to the wedding and sit with them.
I was joking around saying well I guess I dont have to give him his 'donation' now since that is what I am going to need to cover his plate.
What do I do invite him ?? And how do I sit him with a bunch of my family.
Oh and the kicker is I am catholic and FH is greek and jewish. His mother being jewish. He feels he wasnt brought up with a religion (baptised, brised, bar Mitzvah'd) so he was fine with doing it in my church. His mother and grandmother is all annoyed and is refusing to come to the church. His father is behind us 100%. I am at the point if they want to come, come if not no great lose (it took 3 weeks of both of us crying for it to come to this)
But now how on earth do you think she is going to react when she hears the priest is comming to the hall?? How do I handle this??

Don't tell her, she dose not need to know every person that is coming to your wedding.

I def would NOT tell her! Why does she have to know? If you dont tell her, it wont give her time to get upset about it! My MIL is the SAME way and our situations are very similar!

it's considered polite to invite the priest to the reception as far as i know.
we plan on doing it, but i find it a bit odd that he would invite himself!

Yes, tradition states that you are supposed to send an invitation to the Priest.

I wouldn't tell her. But honestly she should know since you are supposed to invite the person who marries you to the wedding

I agree with the others.. and let him know.. if he wants to come to my wedding and perform the ceremony, that's fine because I can't get any priests to perform the ceremony because it's not in the Church. LOL
She's Lutheran and I'm Catholic and we want to get married outside.

I'm Lutheran and FH's Catholic as well. We are going the Lutheran route with a bit of Catholicism thrown in as well...

Can you get married outdoors with a priest there just as like representative?

in my case, yes, although we are electing to have the ceremony indoors at a church...

I agree that its really a standard to invite the person that performs the ceremony to the reception. They often decline, but he may have assumed he was invited, and figured he would actually come to this one cause he knows some people, etc

My FH and I are being married by a priest and a rabbi outdoors at our reception hall. I don't expect either of them to stay for the reception because neither of them are our family priest or rabbi/ I'm paying them each $375, so they can't expect to stay, right?!

I've heard you are supposed to invite teh officaiant but I don't want to, so i am pretending that only applies to rabbis & ministers & not Catholic preists, unless you knwo them well. I will jsut feel I need to 'be on my best behavour' and that we need to say grace, and all that & I don't really know him, I'm just getting married there.
I think he might have to do the 5 pm youth mass, but I'm not sure, then i would invite him, since he couldn't come.
I know, I'm awful. but yes, just sit him with the cousins, don't mention it to the Jewsih relatives.

I agree....and in the event the priest cannot make it, then it's traditional for the best man to give the blessing...

we are inviting our minister and her husband - she is wonderful - i figure she is sharing in the most important part of the day and it would e a shame if she wasnt there for the reception
