So it's been two weeks without my ring... it totally *****. It will be done on tuesday. The jewler finished it today but he re-set my diamond higer up and I thought it looked stupid so I want it the way it was. When he first asked me about the setting I though he was asking me if I wanted a different setting... So I told FH 'He will change my entire setting for me! yay now we can get the kind I like!' um but that wasn't what he ment. I wish FH let me pick out my own ring, there are things about the the ring he picked that I really hate. I wish it were my dream ring, since I totally love the stone he got. FH would so mad if I wanted to change the setting, I feel like it would be his own fault since he refused to ever look at rings with me before we got engaged. Oh well I guess im stuck with it for a while, maybe after 10 years I can get a new one.

Re: My ring
i think that it is very rude of you to say that you hate parts of your ring. it is something that FH picked out for you & i am sure he worked hard to save up money to buy it for you.
why would you ever want to replace the ring that he proposed to you with?
my cousin had her mom redesign her entire e-ring not even a month after the wedding. her husband was very upset that she asked her mom & he is very pissed at his MIL for doing that.

Re: My ring
This is exactly why I convinced my FH to let me go with him. I wasnt sure what I wanted...so I knew he would never figure it out on his own. And in the end I picked something that I didnt even think I would choose. I feel bad for you. It's a tough situation b/c he probably put so much effort into it. I checked out the pics and it looks really pretty...so you could be much worse off! : )

Re: My ring
That is a tough decision. I got my ring from a good friend of mine who is a jeweler. My friend called me and supposedly had a situation in his store about a couple fighting over a ring and then asked me what I like. I told him not knowing my FH called him and told him he wanted to buy a ring from him. So he knew exactly what I wanted. This may seem a little rude too but I have been with him for 18 years and havent asked him for anything. All I wanted was a 2ct. ring. So when he propsed I was in total shcok because it was exactly what I dreamed of.
I asked my FH what he would think if I told him I did not like the ring and wanted to exchange it. He didn't mind at all. He wanted me to be happy with it. Thank god I love it!!

Re: My ring
thats great that you are getting your ring back soon! if you know that your FH will get offended if you want to change the setting then IMO i wouldn't bring it up... but just think about the fact that he put a lot of time and effort and thoughts into picking out that ring especially for you! But i honestly think your ring is gorgeous!

Re: My ring
i am happy that you will get your ring back soon :) I feel that you are just saying that you don't like the setting because it makes the diamond vulnerable to damage. I personally don't think you should be thinking of changing it because FH will be really sad you changed something he worked hard to get for you!

I say do what your heart feels. I personally wouldn't ever change my ring but if you are completely unhappy then you need to follow your gut feeling this is hard to give advice on sorry

This subject is touchy for some but I am not rude or high maintenance, like im sure I sound. I have never asked FH for anything ever. We always get each other small gifts on holidays, im pretty easy and simple. All I ever wanted was my dream engagement ring. I had a picture of it on my computer desktop forever. He just wanted to do his own thing. When we first got engaged I was so in the moment I didn't even look at the ring itself. Now that I am it is dissapointing. The stone is a great size and I don't want to change that at all. He got me exactly what I wanted in that aspect. It's the setting.
It's a peice of jewlery that I have to look at forever. I think I should have been able to choose it. Well I didn't choose it and he got me a ring that looks very different. I hope he offers to change it.
As far as it being 'the ring he proposed with' that doens't mean anything to me. He proposed, and I want to be his wife and I love him, thats all that matters to me. The peice of jewlery itself means nothing to me, I just think I should like it 100%

Re: My ring
I can understand where your coming from ...you cant force yourself to like everything about the ring...if i was in your position in a few years i would say something you should have a ring you love, as long as your happy with the main stone.... the settings aren't that much money.

Re: My ring
Well, personally I feel that YOU should be happy with what he got you no matter what. But, since everyone is different and you dont feel this way, I still think you shouldnt say anything to him just for the fact that it would hurt his feelings. It says something to me that he wanted to do this himself for you. Had we not been in the same situation we were in (we used a diamond that was over 100 years old from my great grandma, down to my grandma, down to my mom), he would have done everything himself. I'm sure he would have picked something perfect for me bc he knows what my style is. But even if it wasnt my dream ring in the way it looked, it would still be something I loved and cherished just bc of what it represents.
Btw, your ring is really beautiful. Thank god its almost dont...I'd feel naked without my ring

Nurse, I understand where your coming from, when I first got my ring I was excited I got THE ring but i wasnt super excited about the ring he picked out...i seriously told him that i hated the ring before I even knew that it was the ring he bought me!!! Of course I love the ring FH got me, he picked it out and he liked it...it isnt my dream engagement ring but it will do, it is his expression of his love so it makes me happy...If you and FH are agreed though on you changing the setting then go for it, but if he is going to get really upset just think a little bit harder about getting it changed...

Re: My ring
i picked out my ring and my setting with FH. it was a lot of fun and im glad i went. but i already want to change the setting lolol. i get bored quick and i would love a 'new' ring.
just remember that the stone is the most expensive part and the part that's supposed to last forever. my jeweler even suggested that we could change the setting ..its pretty common.
you know your FH more than anyone...so if you think it will REALLY upset him then maybe you could stick it out for a bit. It was kind of lame of him not to figure out what style you like. so i feel for you.

I'm with you! I went to pick mine out as well. It would have been great to be surprised...but when you are talking about something so expensive and something you are 'supposed' to wear forever...I think the guy should know exactly what you want. So it was either I go...or he bring a pic...but I didnt know exactly what I wanted...so I went. And by the time he gave me the ring I forgot what it looked like and was surprised all over again. I dont think Nurse is rude at all. And I think this forum is a place where we should all be able to voice our opinions w/o being judged. If she cant tell her FH she hates it...she can vent here : )

Re: My ring
I really dont think that you are being rude at all! I have a similar situation...I love my ring..the size and all but there are a few things that I dont really like about it. THere is miligrain on the sides that I dont really like and now that I have been looking for wedding bands I cant seem to find one that I like...So I can understand. I think maybe when you go for your bands...find the band that you love and stress that...maybe he will offer to change the things about the ering that you dont like...WHat is it exactly that you dont like about it...It is a beautiful ring!

Re: My ring
FH said I can get a new setting in 5 years. I just need to work him down to 1-2 years because I really don't want to go down the asile with this ring that I don't love. It will be in all my pictures forever and I really don't want that.

Re: My ring
fh bought me a BEAUTIFUL ring with the budget he could afford at the time. We are probably upgrading it at the time of the wedding. I picked it out... but I want something a little different IF he can afford it, if he can't.... I still love this ring.
We will be upgrading it by our 5 year anniversary... or getting a new one so I can pass this one down.
