My salon flaked on me, now I need hair and makeup
I have a regular stylist whom I love in Manhattan. I've been going to him for years, he does an amazing job on my hair, and he's just the sweetest guy. He's coming in on his day off two weeks before my wedding so he can take all the time he needs and do a really amazing job with my last haircut and highlights. I asked him a while ago if he'd like to do my hair, just because I thought I should ask, even thought I knew what his response would be. 'Wolf, would you like to come all the way out to Long Island and do my hair at 6am for my wedding?' 'Not really, sweetie.'
OK then, since I'm not sure yet where we're getting ready, I thought it would be easier to do hair and makeup at a salon. There's a very nice one in my village--I got my hair cut there once when Wolf was injured and they did a good job. We've only been planning this wedding since December, so I called them in January and asked if they could open early on a Sunday. They said sure, but it would cost us a bit more. I said fine. They added that they wouldn't take the real reservation until two months before. I thought that was OK. Dumb move. So this past week was two months before and I called them. Got the runaround and a promise someone would call me back. No one did. Called again, then was told that they're NOT going to be open on Sundays in the summer, so even if they'd do it, it would be more money, they're not sure how much, have to check with the boss, they'll call me back. No callback. I called yesterday, spoke to two different people, told them the story, they repeated they weren't open on summer Sundays. Put me on hold twice, then the line was disconnected. Obviously, they don't want my business, so F them. Even if they agreed to open for some ridiculous fee, I wouldn't trust them to show up on time, or show up at all, and then I'd be screwed on my wedding day. Now I need someone.
I posed on the Vendors Helping Brides board, and immediately got several responses. People who want my business. I've heard good things about Khouluds' Beauty on LIW, but has anyone used Fresh Face Forward? I like their online portfolio, they seem very friendly and eager, and I like the idea of supporting a new business. Any other suggestions? I realize it's quite late now.
