My Shower

My Shower

Is it totally rude and deceiptful of me to try and find out when my baby shower is?? Actually I'm serious! I loved my wedding shower last June, it was a semi-surprise, it was only 3 weeks from my wedding date, and I knew it had to be soon, just didn't know when, and I was suprised when I walked in. I was so happy and grateful for what my sister had done, but I couldn't help but feel on the spot and was uncomfortable, so I'd like to know this time.

So, I asked my sister to not have a surprise baby shower, but she's not telling me about it at all. I am a registry peeker and it looks like 2 things were bought so far, I still have 12 weeks until my due date. Anyway, I really want to know when it is, so I'm prepared. Am I spoiling the fun?

Re: My Shower

My shower was a COMPLETE surprise. Everyone said we are going out to lunch for my grandmothers b-day. I walked in and there everyone was shouting SURPRISE. It was SO great not knowing. Its a good thing I didnt show up looking horrid... all those pics.

I say enjoy the surprise.

Re: My Shower

Mine was a complete suprise!!! Every year we would go to my friends daughters b-day. So sure enough I go to her house to ceebrate another year & WHAMMO!!! They yelled suprise & it took me a minute to realize it was for me!!!

My wedding is 2 months away. So, I'm figuring it's going to happen soon. I'm going to try to make sure I look decent on the weekends!

Re: My Shower

YES YOU ARE spoiling the fun !

If I was your sister and I found out you were snooping to figure it out, I'd be hurt and angry. Shes going to so much to make this a special surprise.
DONT SNOOP ! Maybe you can ask her and tell her that you'd really feel uncomfortable like last time, and if shes ok with it, then great.

We are throwing a bridal shower for a close friend, and I told her not to DARE peek, otherwise I'll just tell her the date ! She doesnt want to know but is curious.

Recently my SIL had a surprise party for her mom, and her mom was asking co-workers tons of questions to put them on the spot, she even called teh restaurant she was going to, to find out. I would have really been offended at all this. I would have just told her it was her party if she really wanted to know...

Hope that makes sense....

Ask your sister. and no peeking. its not fair !

Re: My Shower

I did ask her to tell me a while back while telling her that I didn't want it to be a surprise, but I never heard anything from her about it except she wanted to make sure I registered. Anna, you're right, I wouldn't want he to be hurt or angry, she loves this kind of stuff and I know she is doing a lot of planning for it, so I wouldn't want to ruin that. I also wouldn't start asking my friends and family questions, or call restaurants. I guess I'm just curious and want to be prepared to be put on the spot. So, what I'll do is just make sure I'm always dressed nice enough for pics on the weekends!

Now, the hard part is, how do I control myself from looking at my registries? I mean I still go on to update and add/delete stuff.

Re: My Shower

I agree with Anna! I was so annoyed with my sister when I was planning both her bridal and baby shower, because she was a PEEKER and a snoop and had to know it all. And knew exactly when they both were!!! That really upset me. Now, I on the otherhand, walk around in total oblivion half the time and am totally clueless and I'm the easiest person to surprise, but because of certain mouths and the time frame, I kind of knew when my bridal shower was and was upset by the fact that I kind of knew. I already told my MIL, sister and mother, that I don't want any loose lips this time and I don't want anybody discussing anything with me. They're already with the 'well I'll buy this and I'll buy that' and I got totally p***ed off!!!

But some people don't like surprises either! As a person who's thrown a shower, I think you shouldn't ask your sister when it is!! She's planning very hard for it to be a really nice day for you, you don't want to spoil that for her!!!

Re: My Shower

No, nina dont even add/delete stuff. Let your hubby do it, or your sister, no excuse !

I may have posted this story a while back...(tangent)..
A coworker accidentally spoiled my bridal shower. Thing is, my sister sent a little bunch of invites to one girl i worked with, and SHE interofficed them to everyone else. So this girl thought I interofficed it to her... In a way, I can see that, but DUH ! it said RSVP to another person ! So she left me voicemail saying 'sorry anna, i'll be out of town the weekend of the 27th'
I wanted to kill her. I called her and sent her an email saying that was a surprise and she ruined it. I couldnt fake it and act surprised, especially knowing how much my sis was going through to plan it. SO I had to tell my sister She first acted like 'its not that weekend !! ' then she came out and screamed and wanted to personally kill this girl...she said since everything was planned, that I would just have to act surprised. I felt horrible, and my sister was livid...
Little did I know, she changed the date on me, and TOTALLY surprised me. It was such a fulfilling and happy feeling for her to surprise me and make it that much more special. and I GOT HER good for both her bridal and baby showers...
Its really special if youre surprised. I know alot of brides and moms to be are involved in their own showers nowadays, but I like the traditional way
Just dress nice every weekend , like you said, and leave your sis alone !

Debbie, Id be so annoyed at everyone asking you and telling you stuff !

There, i'll be quiet for a few minutes now !

Nina - be good !

Edited to add: Every time a bride or mom to be walks in to a shower and OBVIOUSLY knows about it, everyone is annoyed and feels let down, LOL. Just my perspective

Re: My Shower

I knew when my bridal shower was. It is NOT easy to suprise me. Plus my sister had me going to a resturant that I really like, but I know she has never been to. Anyway most people just figured that it is so hard to surprise me that I would know.

And I am a peeker, peeker, peeker. It is awful but I couldn't help myself

So Nina, you can enjoy this time and just let everything happen as planned or continue your peeking ways.

Anna, my MIL cracks me up! She's sooooo excited about having a grandchild, and I totally understand that, but she's like 'I'll buy this or that or whatever you need/want' and I'm like whoa, slow down, let me have this baby first!!!!! I told her I don't want to know anything about anything and she said I'm no fun!!! Can you imagine???? Plus she REALLLLLLYYYYYYY wants to know what I'm having, but no can do, sorry!!! What's wrong with this picture?

Nina my sister is totally letting me know when it is! I don't want to be surprised either! I was so surprised for my bridal shower and that is enough for me. Plus she really wants to have it at her house and I live upstairs from her so it would really be hard to surprise me! i say when they yell 'SURPRISE' pretend to go into labor Just kiddin' of course

Re: My Shower

Oh, you should definitely *try* to be surprised!! As much as I wanted to know about my Bridal Shower, I really didn't want to know!!! Poor DH blew it!! I forgave him, though!

This is the same man who says he could keep our baby's gender a secret for 5 months. Yeah, right!!

It'll be here before you know it, Nina!!
