My sorority sister just made a million dollars...

My sorority sister just made a million dollars...

So one of my sorority sisters from college wrote the book 'The Devil Wears Prada.' As if that wasn't enough, I just got an email that they are making it into a movie and she is making a million dollars. I can't help but be incredibly jealous--a million dollars would really come in handy right now! And she is only 27!

Well, I don't know if this will help, but I absolutely hated that book. Both my DH (who was so excited to read it because he works for CNP) and I did not get past the first 100 pages. BUt I think it is great that she has been so fortunate.

That's awesome. Shower her in congratulations and maybe she'll share the wealth!

Although I can understand your jealousy, that's awesome!!!!
I've been saying for years I wanted to write a sitcom. I start it, and never finish... it's impressive to see someone followed their dream! Congrats to her!

She probably has over a million at this point. That book was a number one seller for a long time....it just recently came out in paperback b/c the hard cover was doing so well!

BTW...I enjoyed the book...it was a quick read...not the deepest of all books but fun!

WOW - that is crazy!!! My company actually published the audiobook version of this book, and when we aquired the Audio rights, I remember thinking to myself - wow, she's my age and already has a bestseller novel!!!

I have to agree with the other posts on not liking the book though. In my field we call it a 'fluff' read, there's no brainpower needed to read it :) I thoght it was an annoying book actually - I can't imagine how crazed with jealousy I would be if it was someone I went to school with, so don't feel bad!

I guess I am in the minority but I loved that book because it was easy and mindless (just what you need after a stressful day of work). I can't believe she's getting paid that much though, wow. Makes me want to write my own book/'expose' about the NYC law firm/corporate life!

I've never heard of the book but congrats to her. Out of curiosity I went onto Amazon to read about it. It got 3 out of 5 stars and this is what the Amazon reveiw had to say about the author: '...author Weisberger is such an inept, ungrammatical writer, you're positively rooting for her fictional alter ego not to get anywhere near The New Yorker....' OUCH! I'd certainly need the million to make me feel better about that!

How funny...I just started this book last night. So far, the story has been good, but the dialogue is almost painful to read.

She didn't even do well in college. She wasn't one of my good friends, but she was in my major along with my MOH, and we were all in the same sorority, but she was a year above me. It was a small major so we worked with each other on projects and everything. She definitely wasn't the best writer--we were taking bets on whether she had a ghost writer write it. That's what's so frustrating too--we never thought she would do well in the real world at all!

How awesome for her!!

BUT remember girls-- it doesn't matter how you did in college or even what college you went to... it's ALLLLLL who you know in the magazine industry, and MAN did she do it right!!!!

It's basically like Andrea's story in the book--

Lauren Weisberger sucked it up as Anna Wintour's assistant and then she got exactly what she wanted!! Everyone knew who she was (um, Anna Wintour's assistant) and in the end who wouldn't publish the most powerful woman in magazines ex-assistant's story??

Hmmm.... ya think Anna had anything to do with it????

I liked that book! Especially because it was fluff- I need that once in awhile.

I have to say that I loved it. But, I've worked for at a few retail headquarters, enough to know that I've seen stuff like that happen in real life in the fashion world. Kinda hit close to home for me....

could be why I left the field...
