My ZOOM BLEACHING Experience
So I wanted to do BriteSmile but it was pretty expensive and when I tried to get three people together on the deal for $400 a piece, the arrangement fell through and it just so happened that it was the last day of that special.
So I found this place doing the Zoom Bleaching for much much less. I paid $200 for the whole procedure and it was the same process as BriteSmile, just a different gel. So for those of you that might be worried about doing it, I just wanted to share my experience.
First, they sit you in the chair and put this white semi-flexible plastic thing in your mouth to keep it open. Get used that thing because it will be in your mouth for awhile. They take a before picture and then they pumice your teeth (basic cleaning) to get out all the surface stains.
Next, they prep your gums by coating them with some gel-like substance that they sorta blow dry and it hardens to a semi soft mold. This protects your gums from being burned by the bleach. Then, they put some cotton in there to push away your lips and keep your tongue protected.
They mix a gel and apply it to your teeth with a syringe. They turn the Zoom light on, direct it at your teeth, give you orange glasses to protect your eyes and then you sit there for 20 minutes with the light on your teeth. The stuff in your mouth is only mildly uncomfortable and the light is gently warming. I actually dozed off for a minute or two.
You do three 20 minutes sessions like this. They come back and put more gel on, shine the light again for another 20 minutes, etc etc. When it's over you brush your teeth, rinse, they take an after picture and that's it!! You're done!!
The entire process took about 2.5 hours from the time I parked my car there until I got back into my car. It was $200, chargeable, which is due right after it's done. The procedure was performed by a Dental Assistant and it was mostly painless. During the last 20 minute application of the gel, I felt a little sensitivity in three of my teeth, but even that was intermittent. Your teeth are extra susceptible to stains for the next 48 hrs and may be a little more sensitive than usual but that's it. My lips, gums, and tongue were completely unharmed.
When I got up and saw my teeth in the mirror -- I could tell the difference immediately. My teeth are much whiter and I used to smoke (for 10 yrs) and am a big coffee drinker and have been for many years. Considering all that, they are pretty white so to me it was well worth it and I would highly recommend it.
I did it at Broadway Dental in Hicksville and they were running a special, basically doing it at cost. The regular price is around $400 - $450 (I think -- don't quote me on that!) and I'm not sure if the sale is still running -- there was an ad in the Clipper Magazine when I scheduled my appointment.
ETA: It is now about 6 hours later and they hurt a little more... they are a little more sensitive. Considering taking Ibuprofen....
