I have always heard that wedding dresses run really small. That seemed reasonable to me because I've usually been a size or two bigger when buying other formal dresses.
Well, I tried on some dresses today. This was my first time going, and I only tried two on. But the first one I tried on was one size bigger than my regular clothes size and was a little too big. Then the second dress I put on was my regular clothes size and it fit right. The gowns were by different designers.....
So is the small sizing a myth or was my experience today just a coincidence?

Re: myth about gown sizes?
I think for the most part the small sizing is true - maybe more in some designers than others. I had my 2nd fitting on Wed and they were telling me it's ridiculous because the sizes run so small because wedding dresses are made in jr sizes- which they said made no sense - it's not like it's a bunch of teenagers getting wedding dresses! They did say that the samples for next year's lines were starting to come in more reasonable sizes.

I wear a 5/6 or kids xxl, lol. I have to order my gown in a 10. The 8 'fit' but I could not breathe..the 10 has to be taken in.

I believe that myth still stands... you just happened to find the one designer true to size.

Re: myth about gown sizes?
I was trying on dresses 2 sizes bigger than my normal size. BUT, and I forget what designer this was, I also tried on a dress that was my true size and it fit fine. I guess all designers are different?

Re: myth about gown sizes?
My dress was an 8 altered to a 6 in the waist since I have semi big boobies lol. But in street clothes I vary from a 1 up to a 5. Its all about the brand/line!

Re: myth about gown sizes?
I was told that in the bridal industry, sizing remains true to the way sizes ran years ago. What used to be a 6 is now a much, much smaller size (in normal clothes). My normal dress size is a 0 but my wedding gown was an 8!! (I actually could've ordered a 6 but it was on the borderline on the size chart).
