Does anyone out there bring their own utensils to the nail place for manicure/pedicure?
I have started to but just recently.
Am I just being paranoid about getting infected with a disease from unsterile equipment? I have never had a problem before so I'm sure the chances are extremely slim, right?

So in other words if I have NEVER been cut and NEVER had an infection as a result, I should be fine.

basically-- but I have been cut by accident by just a brand new file while getting a pedicure--- and I have never had any infections- I go to 'clean' places though so I am not sure-- maybe it depends on if the places appear to be clean or not--

Re: Nail Salons
NOT TRUE!!!!!!
I know many people who have been infected (including myself & my sister). It's very common in both nail salons and swimming pools....ask any member of a swim team.
I pay 2X what a manicure/pedicure...but they use all sterilized equipment (I see it coming out of the sterile packs) and disposable things (like the foot scrubs). It also has lockers for routine customers to bring out their own.
Foot infections are very hard to treat...often requiring multiple, expensive creams (not covered by most insurance), freezing and at times surgery.

Re: Nail Salons
I always bring my own things to nail salons now, on the rare occasion that I even get my nails done. Last year I got a staph infection in my finger from a manicure and I never want to go through that again. Even places that look clean probably aren't taking all the precations they need to in order to properly sterilize everything.

Speaking as a formal salon owner I can tell you MOST places won't take the risk if they are at all professional.
If your too worried there is no harm to bring your own tools. I would worry more about the place you chose. I find most bacteria grows in the soaking tubs if not cleaned properly. Esp the ones with the jets.
The chances of you getting cut with a implement and getting something is pretty rare, and the salon would have to be quite DIRTY for the amount you would need to get a bad infection.
As I said worry about the foot baths and the place you chose. I would bring your own files and or buffers for your feet, that is where the fungus will grow first.
Good Luck.

Re: Nail Salons
I bring my own utensils. I get skeeved out BIG time. I have seen woman who have nail fungus and I def don't want to catch that. I think thats gross, that they would file my nails with the same fungus nail file. There's nothing wrong with bringing your own stuff. I see it done all the time. Plus I don't trust the nail salons sterilization. Some places, put the utensils in a glass box with a UV light...i always wondered what that did...beacuse it doesn't seem like it does much, plus they also sterilize it in liquid, but how often do they change that...
be safe, bring your own utensils.

pssssstt That is a safe way to get rid of bacteria. LISTEN, there is NOTHING wrong with bringing your own stuff however what I am saying is if the place is Reputable they will be following code regardless and there should be nothing to worry about! I would be thinking twice about the places anyone goes to where Technicians are using the files that were used on someone prior who had fungus Where does that make sense.
