If you mean cuts, yes, I have, many times...I chew my cuticles so when I go to get my nails done my cuticles are usually a mess(sometimes cut), then after I get them done for a couple of weeks I stop biting my cuticles.

This might be a stupid question -- but are you asking because you are concerned about getting an infection if you get your nails done with some nicks on your fingers , etc?

I say this because I'm extremely PARANOID when I go to the nail salon. I never let them touch my cuticles for fear of being cut.. so if I had some nicks I'd be freaking out thinking I'd catch something there ..

I know the chances are slight, but I'm such a germ-a-phobe (and a little wacky, I know)

not a stupid question...answer is yes, very ascared.

I wouldn't. I would be too afraid I would catch something from the devices they use on thousands of people.

If you are scared to go why are you even thinking about going for a manicure? Why not paint your nails your self until your cuts clear up?

not a bad question...

if you were to see my hands, you'd think i was crazy...

you can always bring your own manicure kit to the salon so they do not have to use the files and clippers that they use on everyone else, if you are that paranoid about catching something.

Re: nails...

i just have an itty bitty paper cut on two fingers...i'm talking ITTY BITTY...but i am just a bit of a mess today and i really want to get my nails done...and my thumb is cracked and i'm just whimpy and whiney today.

ChristineC68 Posted:

Re: nails...

why don't you put some of that liquid band aid stuff on it so nothing gets in? or just have them patch your thumb?

Re: nails...

actually i was worried about the part where you dip your fingers in the water...not the utensils touching my fingers part becuase my itty bitty cuts aren't anywhere near where they would be touched by utensils.

this is a great idea

Well I'm glad that my question didn't sound wacky .. I thought I was the only one who REALLy obsessed about germs , esp at the nail salon.. I always take my own 'manicure kit' and never let them use their own files, etc.

Further to my paranoia, I've given my nails a 'rest' from salon manicures until my wedding in a month, just to be safe .. though I am miserable everytime I look at my messy, raggedy hands and see how horrible they look

I think the actuall danger is staph infection, but there maybe others. as for the soaking part, if you see them fill up the bowl with fresh water it should be ok.

I just got a pedicure & I probably shouldn't have - I had a slight cut on my toe, but it didn't get infected.

I didn't think of liquid bandaid. and I have some. That's a good idea.

IMO, I wouldn't do this. It took me a while to get my nails looking nice with regular manicures and I would want them to look nice for the wedding. The chance of something happening to your hands (in general and in particular since you bring all your own tools) is nearly non-existent.

we'll that's positive

anyway...i got em done...they look pretty...but of course i am worried sick...i bought the liquid band-aid stuff...and for the most part it worked nicely...also, i tried to explain to the woman not to touch my sore finger and she was careful...(enough)

oh well...
