OK, so I had a 'trial manicure' at eastwind last weekend and I loved it! One nail was really weak so she did a gel manicure on just that nail and I think I really like it.... but now I can't decide what to do...... I have always envisioned having real nails just done in a french manicure for my wedding because I have never had wraps or gels or anything... and now I am stuck- since it is only one nail it looks very natural but I can't tell what I whole set will look like and I don't want to go to a random nail place and get it done- I would rather go to her (but I live in the city with is 2 1/2 hours away from her so I can't get out there again until the day before the wedding). So my question... does anyone have gel nails and do you like them better than natural nails???
**Oh, and another big reason that I am considering gel nails is because they don't chip!! My polish should stay on through my entire honeymoon!!!

Re: Nails...
I got the gel (permanent french type) and I LOVE them. They look so natural and they are still going strong from almost 3 weeks ago. I got a bunch of compliments from guests and co workers. They are also more gentle on your nail then acrylic.

Re: Nails...
I've been getting the UV gel manicures for almost a year now and I love them.
My nails feel so strong (even if underneath the gel they may be weak) and it is very durable.

Re: Nails...
I'm really hoping for natural. I like the way gel tips/acylic look, but I hate what they do to my nails. My nails are pretty long right now and I'm crossing my fingers that they will not break! I really do love the natural fiji/ballet slippers look!

Re: Nails...
I say go with the gel, only b/c you will NOT have to worry about chipping, bumping, knicking, bruising or uneven nails. Just make sure to tell them you want them as natural as possible.

Re: Nails...
I never get anything done to my nails, I usually just keep them short..but for the wedding I did do the uv gel french...it felt very natural and lasted through my entire honeymoon...they actually started chipping on the plane home...all in all it was a nice easy way for me to have nice nails for the wedding..i recommend it...

Re: Nails...
I have had UV gel (perm french) for the past year or so and I love them! I have had acrylics, silk wraps, you name it...and nothing compares to the gel! I too love the look of my natural nails but for some reason my polish always chipped reallly quickly on my nails so I decided to try out the gel and everyone always tells me they look like my natural nails. I love them! And I go three weeks without a fill and they always look like I just got them done. HTH!

Re: Nails...
My nails are semi long but one chipped and I thought of cutting my nails to make them even and just get a manicure but now I am actually thinking of getting the gel done.

Re: Nails...
I just had my nails soaked off on Sunday. I had the permanent french wraps. I only had them on for about 2 months so my nails are decent. When I was getting a manicure though, I saw someone getting the UVGel (french) and I LOVED it!!! I might have to get it done for the wedding if my nails dont cooperate

Re: Nails...
I have also had gel nails for the past year. I just recently took them off to get a bit of a break from them. I have had them done a few places and found only one place and one particular lady that makes them look super real and super great. She is in bayside queens.
I went to a place on old country road at first although they were nice and pretty cheap-60 for a new set. I tried a place that my friend recommended in bayside and they blew them away. A new set is pricier (100) but the qaulity difference in the product they used is by far much better- noticably better. I know some other places that call it uv gel but it is really acrylic first and then put the uv gel as a top coat and charge as much as the real thing- that is a rip off and those do not look as good.
Sorry but I do not know first hand of any great places in the city

Re: Nails...
Where in Bayside, Queens? I don't usually go to get my nails done so I have no idea where to go. I don't live too far from Bayside.

Its nail and foot spa on Francis Lewis Blvd between 34&35th avenue. The girl I use is Niki she is the best in there with the UV gel, she is off sun and wed. I'll post the phone number later, I have the number at home cause you would need to make an appt with her she gets pretty booked.
For pedicures I go to a place on 154st and 14 ave in whitestone called foxy nails they are open until 11!!!!!!!!! that place is a hole in the wall but they use disposables and do a great job- plus the late hours are AWESOME!
