Name Change

Please help!

I am getting all the info ready for the name changing process. Any words of advice as to what should be changed first (drivers license, passport, social security card, creditcards).

Also, does it cost $ to get certified copies of a marriage certificate - everyone wants an original or certified copy.

Social Security First since DMV will go by that name.

Then DMV since you often use your drivers license as a form of ID. Then I would do passport (unless you won't be using it) - Credit card, banks are easiest so I would do them last.

Yeah as soon as i had my marriage licence i changed my banks first...then i did SS, get there early!! lines can be crazy

then DMV...wasnt as bad

they want the original copy of the marriage licnence but they dont keep it, they just need to see it.

then just change credit cards and phone bills when you get a chance, most of those can do it over the phone or online

You don't need to change your SS for the DMV. I did both on the same day - one does not have any bearing on the other. But those are the big two.

Once you do those, passport, credit card, work stuff. Make sure you make all honeymoon arrangements through your maiden name as you won't have enough time to change your name before going away (if you are going right after your wedding) and that will become a logistical nightmare.
