Are you going to take your fh's last name or keep your own. I have struggled with this question since I got engaged. My last name means a lot to me and it is hard for me to let it go. See my father passed away in 2001 and he was my heart. I was named after him. His name is Lawrence Frederick and my name is Lauren freda. so i feel like I change my name I would be give up a apart of me that is special and important to me. Now on the other hand I want to have my children and my husbands last name but I'm not sure if I want to hyphenate either. I'm so confused

Re: name change (a little long)
I'm taking his name because I feel like when you get married you become as one. So when someone says Mr. and Mrs.------ I would feel special. I don't know. Hard to explain. But your situation is very different I think that it's cool to be named after your father and I would have a hard time letting that go.HTH.

Re: name change (a little long)
I think this is a personal decision that only you and your FH can make. I completely understand where you are coming from, and I am sure if you explain your reasons for wanting to keep your name to your FH, he will too.
My situation is different than most brides, as my FH is actually taking my name. While this was his own decision, and nothing I would have ever suggested, I have to admit I am somewhat relieved that I will not have to make the difficult choice of whether or not to change my name, as mine means a lot to me also.
Good luck!

i am taking his name. but i feel that if it is meaningful for you and important, there is nothing wrong with adding a hyphen.
