Re: Name change help!!
i wouldnt mail my original marriage certificate, just cant trust the usps with that. not sure what they mean by a certified copy, you should probably call them up and ask. it is probably easier to just go in & do it.

Re: Name change help!!
i know that certified means that it must have a raised seal and having said that means that it must be an original...you can actually order several original and they will mail them to you and i read somewhere that they should be free of charge and any place that does charge is no considered reputable....hth

Re: Name change help!!
You can get a certified copy from a state office. They will print one and put a raised seal on it to 'certifiy' that its a true copy of the original.
When I lost my SS card a few years ago- I mailed my Driver's License with the form and about a week and half later, I got the license back in the mail and then a few weeks later they sent my SS card. So, it's okay to do that.

Thank you! i was also told you can go to a bank and they have a machine that makes a raised seal on a copy. i dont know how true this is yet so i guess we will see. But at least it sounds like if i have to send my original i will be ok. Thanks

I mailed mine and they retunred it to me saying it has to be done in person. I already went there and it was a three hour wait. I am pissed!
