I am getting married in a few months, and I would like to know what you are all doing when it comes to changing your name.
I have my professional certifications in my maiden name, although I am beginning a new career and I am not yet 'known'.
FH said he said that its my choice, and he supports whatever I decide to do with changing/hyphenating or whatever with the last name.
I have friends that have done both taking their husband's last name and hyphenating their last names.
I really would like to know what you ladies are doing with your last names. Thanks ladies!!

Ditto...I haven't legally changed it yet because I'm adding the initial of my maiden name as my middle name (I don't have a middle name), so once I do that I'm changing it officially to his last name, personally and professionally.

I'm going to change it personally and professionally.. they can always change the names on your certifications and diplomas if that is important to you.

It might just be me, but I have a huge problem being told that your achievements mean less, so give up your identity because you are not a man.

Re: Name Change Help
My FH assumed I was going to hyphenate my name. So I told him why wouldn't I take his name. That being said, I'm leaning towards hyphenation. As my daughter says, 'If I ever get married I'm keeping McCoy.' She's funny. The decision is ultimately yours.
Good luck.

Re: Name Change Help
I hyphenated. I need to at least partially keep my maiden name for work, although I would have loved to have just kept it all together. But it was important to DH so I hyphenated it.

I think it is very personal, so you have to make your choice by yourself~

This exactly!!! I hate this!!
I move around a lot in the military, so you're constantly meeting and working with new people. If I change my name, people will no longer be able to find me unless they remember my new last name, so its like starting over.
FH was really hurt that I'm considering not changing it until I get out, but he doesn't understand that my name is my career.
And I can't just keep it professionally... I work for the government, my legal name IS my name, I wear it on my shirt, lol

Re: Name Change Help
I am going to keep my name for as long as possible. I have no problem if someone refers to me as Mrs. R, but I am not comfortable taking a completely different name and losing that part of my identity. However, I don't know how I would feel about having a different last name as our children, so at that point I might hyphenate it legally, but would probably still use my maiden name professionally.
