Name change kit?

Re: Name change kit?

I was just looking at that kit just yesterday. I am not sure if I want to use it. I can't wait to see what the ladies say about this.

I didn't use a kit... it's really not that hard to change your name... you just need to get your marriage liscense in the mail... I went to social security, spent about 5 minutes there and then 2 weeks later I had a new card... then I went to the DMV and filled out some paperwork, took a new pic, paid 5 bucks and actually got my new driver's liscense today... w/ my credit cards, I have been writing on my monthly statement that I changed my name (send it along with a pymt) and they have sent me new cards... so far, it has been pretty easy... there are obviously things I still need to change, but I am sure I will get that done in time...
good luck!

Is there a list of these things I need to do somewhere?

Re: Name change kit?

Start with...
Social Security Card

Department of Motor Vehicles - Drivers License and Vehicle Registration

**Don't expect to be able to change the name or address on the title of your car, however: A new title is only issued upon transfer of ownership.**

Internal Revenue Service
Advice for Newlyweds and Link to PDF of Required Form SS-5

State and Local Tax Collection Agencies

Passport Amendment/Validation Application

And don't forget to communicate your name change to...
U.S. Post Office
Employer
401k / Retirement plans
Credit card companies
Bank accounts / names on checkbook
Mortgage
Voter registration
Doctor, dentist, HMO, medical records, heath-care proxy
Health, life, auto, and home insurance policies
Clubs
Memberships
Discount, courtesy, and frequent-flyer cards
Utility companies (phone, cable, gas, electric, etc.)
Legal Contracts
Will (you may want to change the beneficiary to your spouse at the same time)

Hope this helps dita531

I have a question. Can you change your name before your married, after you have your marriage license? Or do you have to wait for it to be signed by a priest?

Re: Name change kit?

i am 99.9% sure you need to wait until you have thepapaer work from the priest sent into the town offices and then they send you bck your official marriage licences ...ince you have that...then you can go nuts

otherwise if you wanted to change your name before you would have to go to local courts and that is a pain in the butt and at that point i am not sure if they would even change it for you
